Enjoy a short break or an even longer holiday at Nana Duck's Cottage which is situated in the lovely, peaceful setting of Riverside Mews, right in the heart of Thirsk town centre, yet tucked away in a quiet, traditional mews, Nana Duck's Cottage has picturesque views of the bubbling brook, Cod Beck, that threads it way through this beautiful market town and is moments from everything Thirsk has to offer, as well as plenty of walks from the doorstep. With a King Size and a double bedroom, this pet and child friendly cottage is the ideal place to base yourself to take in the sights and sounds of everything that North Yorkshire has to offer - we are close to both the Yorkshire Moors and Dales, so it is a great base to explore this incredible and beautiful county. Ideal for holiday makers, families, walkers, cyclists or those who just want a short break, Thirsk itself is a friendly market town that has plenty to do for all the family, from antique shops, boutiques and lovely arts and crafts shops to dog friendly cafes, pubs and eateries. The riverbank is just 50 yards away from the cottage with its abundance of ducks that the family can enjoy feeding (wet bread please though and not too much or better still they love frozen peas or duck food!). About Thirsk
Thirsk is a traditional North Yorkshire Market town positioned midway between the stunning North York Moors and the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, right in the midst of Herriot country for those James Herriot fans. In the famous James Herriot stories created by the writer Alf Wight, Thirsk is the fictional 'Darrowby', a central location in the tales featuring the activities of a Yorkshire vet. The World of James Herriot Museum in Thirsk occupies the original surgery of Alf Wight who lived in Thirsk for more than fifty years. Thirsk is very pet friendly. There are plenty of walks that start directly from Nana Duck’s cottage, following the river or through fields and pathways you can go further afield, enjoying the breath-taking Yorkshire countryside, including the Hambleton Hills with their many footpaths and cycleways. Just two minutes away from Nana Duck’s cottage you will find the cobbled market square in the centre of Thirsk where you can enjoy the interesting pubs, buildings and houses many dating back to the eighteenth century, when Thirsk was an important posting station. Thirsk's oldest inns include the Three Tuns dating back to 1698 and The Golden Fleece that is thought to date back to Tudor times. There are also a number of museums, galleries and the world-renowned James Herriot Centre is literally round the corner - a must see for fans of All Creatures Great and Small. Thirsk also has plenty of traditional shops, cafes and tearooms to choose from and even its own racecourse if you fancy a fun filled day out. There really is something for everyone and the best thing is, its all year round! Thirsk is the principal market town of the Hambleton Hills, forming the western part of the moors and is a haven for keen walkers and cyclists with numerous pathways and cycle tracks close by. It is an excellent base for touring the whole of the Yorkshire Dales National Park as well as the North Yorkshire Moors and the stunning coastline, which is easily reached within an hours drive across stunning scenery. The historic medieval city of York is just ½ hour away and well worth a visit, as are Harrogate, Ripon, Northallerton, Knaresborough and Richmond - all stunning and crammed full of lovely independent shops, cafes and bistros. The famous White Horse of Kilburn and the incredible views of Lake Gormire from Sutton Bank is just 4 miles away.
