A quick note from the team at Queensberry Estate:
Mennock Pass is one of the most beautiful and tranquil spots on the Estate and we love that so many people want to camp out and experience it, but over the summer our team have spent hours clearing up after wild campers; disposable BBQs, food packaging, human waste and much more.
It's a real job for our staff, it takes them away from the work that keeps this place looking the way everyone comes here to see it, and it isn't just unpleasant - it's genuinely harmful.
Litter and waste pollute the burn, put grazing livestock and wildlife at risk, and damage the experience for the local community and every other visitor who comes here to enjoy it responsibly.
If you're heading up, follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code: take all litter home with you, deal with human waste properly, take used toilet paper and wipes home with you, leave no trace of your visit and respect the land, the livestock, and the people who live and work here.
Thanks to everyone who already does this - it makes a genuine difference.
Thank you also to those concerned who have emailed directly, please be assured we are trying to make things better.
