Celebrating 40 Years of Outstanding Hospitality
Thornton Hall was once the home of wealthy shipping merchants, Bamford Brothers of Liverpool. The building is believed to have been built in the mid-1830’s. It became a flying club following World War II and was transformed into a hotel in 1954, with many of the original features of the hall remaining intact. During the war, Martins Bank, based in Liverpool, is reputed to have moved their Gold Reserve to the wine cellars at Thornton Hall, with a destroyer at Wallasey Docks, poised for a rapid escape!
Today the hotel is owned by the Thompson Family and renowned locally for fine food and hospitality.
