LATEST NEWS | We are urging the public to prevent watch marine wildlife responsibly, following recent humpback whale sightings.

Earlier this year, Cornwall’s coastline became a hotspot for whale watching, with multiple reports of humpback whales in the area. However, with the arrival of these rare marine mammals comes an increased responsibility to protect them from disturbances which can negatively impact their health and behaviour patterns.

Rural Affairs Officer PC Lee Skinner said “Cornwall is fortunate to have a spectacular coastline which is home to many species of marine animals and wildlife.

“As the weather starts to warm up, it’s important that people visiting coastal areas consider the wellbeing of marine wildlife and take steps to prevent any unnecessary disruption.

“This means keeping a safe distance away from whales, seals and other marine wildlife, and keeping noise to a minimum. Dogs must also be kept on leads and under close control around wildlife.

“Protecting our coastline is something we take very seriously, and we will continue to work closely with the Marine Management Organisation and other partners to make sure that marine animals are able to live safely in their natural environment, free from human disruption.”

Incidents of whale or marine wildlife disturbance should be reported to the relevant authorities. If you witness marine wildlife being harassed or endangered, please contact:

• Your nearest MMO office
• Devon & Cornwall Police Rural Affairs team by calling 101 or filling in an intelligence form on the force website
• Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s 24-hour hotline: 0345 201 2626.

An absolutely stunning shot of Avebury, it shows us how big the henge is. The Avebury monument is extensive and comprises several smaller sites from different periods.

The oldest, the earthworks, date back to between 3400 and 2625 BC.

Subsequent additions include a henge and multiple stone circles. Beginning around the 14th century, locals started dismantling the stone circles for various reasons: to clear land, to use the materials for other construction projects, or to erase a pagan monument.

When John Aubrey visited the site in 1648, he observed that most of the stones were either still standing or lying close by.

Don't forget it has a pub in the middle of it!

🌘 The Countdown to Cornwall’s Solar Eclipse is On! 🌘

Mark your calendars—Saturday, March 29, is set to bring a celestial spectacle to Cornish skies! A partial solar eclipse will take place, giving us a rare chance to witness the Moon pass between the Earth and the Sun, casting a shadow and momentarily dimming daylight.

🔭 What to Expect in Cornwall?
While some parts of the world will experience total darkness, here in Cornwall, we’ll see around 30% of the Sun obscured. It all kicks off at 10:07 AM (UK time), with maximum coverage happening at 11:03 AM before the eclipse ends at 12:00 PM.

⚠ Important Safety Reminder!
Never look directly at the Sun—even during an eclipse! Doing so can cause serious eye damage or even permanent blindness. If you plan to watch, make sure you use proper solar viewing glasses or other safe viewing methods.

☁ Will the Weather Cooperate?
Right now, the forecast for Saturday morning is 50/50—we could get some sunny spells, but cloud coverage might block the view at times. Keep an eye on our latest weather updates on Friday for the most accurate forecast.

No matter what, this is a must-watch event for sky lovers! Let us know in the comments if you'll be tuning in and where you'll be watching from. 🌍✨
