Busy times building the pens around Molland Estate in preparation for the impending arrivals!

We’re often asked what happens when the shooting season finishes — does everyone head off on holiday for a few months?

If only!

Work on the estates continue all year round. From cleaning feeders, working the ground, creating habitats, building pens and preparing for the next season, an enormous amount of work goes on behind the scenes. A keeper’s work is never truly done.

All go last week on the shoots drilling before the rain!

On our shoots, we plant a variety of cover crops to provide essential food, shelter and protection for pheasants and partridges. These crops, which can include mustard, maize, kale and sorghum, are left unharvested and carefully selected to support healthy gamebird populations.
As an added benefit, they also create a valuable habitat for a wide variety of other farmland birds, pollinators and wildlife, contributing significantly to the estate's biodiversity.
