Wellswood Village itself is just a 5-minute walk, by road or woodland (steps and road option), and is one of the most charming areas of Torquay. Everything you need for day to day living is in Wellswood, including a very good Co-op, restaurant, wine bar, delicatessen, bakery, post office, florist and dog friendly pub - The Kents, is a local's friendly with a sunny beer garden. Torquay is the birthplace of crime writer Agatha Christie and also home of the former Gleneagles Hotel, inspiration for ’Fawlty Towers’. National Gallery masterpieces are coming to Torquay.

Torre Abbey is excited to be one of the first partners for The National Gallery: Art on Your Doorstep — a brand new touring project bringing life sized masterpieces out of London and straight to our beautiful Bay.

The free, open air trail will stretch from Torre Abbey to Torquay Harbour, and will celebrate our stunning seafront while spotlighting the Bay’s rich cultural heritage.
Get ready to see iconic National Gallery paintings reproduced at their true scale, with incredible detail. It’s world class art, right where you walk every day.

This is a unique chance to experience famous artworks in a whole new way — outdoors, accessible, and made for everyone. The trail will run from 6 March to 5 September 2026.
