The Forbidden City, also known as the Palace Museum, is located in the heart of Beijing. It served as the imperial palace for the Ming and Qing dynasties and is the world’s largest and best-preserved ancient wooden palace complex. Construction began in 1406 during the reign of the Yongle Emperor, giving it a history of more than 600 years.

Covering 720,000 square meters with over 9,000 rooms, the Forbidden City follows a strict ceremonial layout: a symmetrical central axis, layered courtyards, and grand halls such as the Hall of Supreme Harmony, Hall of Central Harmony, and Hall of Preserving Harmony. It represents the pinnacle of traditional Chinese architecture and craftsmanship.

In 1987, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today, the Palace Museum houses more than 1.8 million cultural relics and stands as one of the world’s most important repositories of Chinese art and history, attracting visitors from around the globe.
