The UK will experience a partial solar eclipse on Wednesday 12 August.

The extent of the Sun’s coverage and the timing of maximum obscuration will differ across the country. Local weather conditions may impact viewing opportunities, so it’s worth checking the forecast in advance 🌦️

Northeast Scotland will have around 88% covered just before 7pm, whilst in the far southwest of England there will be around 96% coverage just after 7:15pm.

Never look directly at the sun; use a pinhole projector or certified eclipse glasses to view it.

We hope that everyone is having an amazing summer! Things are pretty dry around here so the landscape has changed a little, although still greener here than in many areas!
We thought that we would just share a few recent photos of the campsite and let you know that if you still planning your next getaway we do still have some limited August availability for electric and non electric pitches.

FIRE SAFETY UPDATE

With a heavy heart, I've had to make the difficult decision today to temporarily ban campfires and fire pits at Wonton Park Camping. 🌾🔥

This really isn't something I ever wanted to do. Sitting around a crackling fire as the sun goes down is one of my favourite parts of camping, and I know it's something many of you look forward to when you stay with us.

However, after weeks without any meaningful rain, the fields and hedges are tinder dry. With the number of local field and wildfires we've seen recently, I simply can't justify taking the risk. As both a farmer and your host, my first responsibility has to be keeping our guests, your tents and camping equipment, our livestock, and our crops safe.

You're still welcome to use gas cookers and gas BBQs for cooking, but please make sure they're kept well off the ground (ideally on a table), supervised at all times, and that you keep a bucket of water on your pitch (buckets are available from the campsite kitchen if you need one).

I'm keeping a close eye on the forecast and, as soon as we get some decent rain (which may be as soon as this weekend) and conditions improve, I'll happily review this decision. Hopefully it won't be for long!

Thank you all for your understanding and support. I know this isn't the news anyone wanted to hear, but I'm sure you'll agree that it's far better to be safe than sorry.
