**Important Notice**

As many of you are aware we closed the fishery 2 weeks ago due to fish loss, and in the importance of transparency we wanted to update everyone on how things have progressed over the 2 weeks.

On the 8th of August we found 2 dead carp floating in Oak Lake and removed them and on the 9th of August we found a further 3 carp floating in the margins. At that point we realised we may have some kind of issue going on and the decision was made to close the fishery until we could determine what was causing the mortalities. We quickly determined the dissolved oxygen levels were quiet low and it appeared we had some kind of reduced O2 events in the preceeding days, probably due to a dense algal bloom, prolonged dry weather and interruptions in the electricity supply during the previous week, meaning the water pumps were on as much as they usually were, creating what can only be described as a perfect storm.
We immediately got the pumps back working and installed an extra pump to try and increase the O2 levels within the lake and continued to monitor fish mortalities and O2 levels over the next few days.
Over the next few days the oxygen levels started to get back to where they were the week previous but the fish mortality numbers continued to rise.
Almost a week after the incident started I managed to net a fish that was still alive to check it gills and found the fish was showing signs of KHV as well as sunken eyes, and immediately contacted the EA to let them know my concerns, they inturn contacted CEFAS and a visit was made by a Fish Health Inspector a few days later.

After meeting the inspector, talking through the timeline of events, showing photos of some of the fish, the species affected as well as him seeing the lakes for him self, he concluded that we had probably had a KHV outbreak. Without a recent dead fish to take take samples from he couldn't say so 100%, but given everything he had to go on it looked highly likely it was a KHV outbreak triggered by a recent oxygen crash. He also concluded that he was happy with everything we did by getting the pumps back working properly straight away, closing the fishery on day 2 of the event and contacting the relevant authorities immediately we thought it maybe more than just an O2 crash event.

It has been such a tough couple of weeks watching around 50% of our larger carp floating on the surface but thankfully half appeared to have survived the event and with no further deaths in the last 4 days it appears as though it's finally over.

We wanted to be open and transparent with everyone so that you can make your own judgement on when to visit the fishery again, once we open.

We are looking at opening the fishery to everyone from Wednesday 26th August and would like to thank everyone for there patience during this recent closure!

PS, we would also like to remind everyone to use the net dips located near the entrance gates at either end of the fishery.

*Important Announcement*

As from yesterday Oak Lake has been closed for fishing due to a significant reduction in oxygen levels over the last week or so.
We are currently doing everything we can to help increase the oxygen levels and therefore protect our fish stocks and will continue to do so until the lakes oxygen levels stabilise. Unfortunately though, until we get some rain to help water movement through the lake and help reduce the concentration levels the algae is going to remain a problem for the lake.

We apologies for any inconvenience caused and will open the once it is safe to do so.

Kindest Regards!

**Fishery Update**

We would like to let everyone know that after a hot busy spawning weekend for the fish, they have spent the last couple of days resting and recovering, and have been busy mopping up the feed pellet.

With everyone keen to get back on the banks we are opening up the fishery from tomorrow (Thursday) for park residents/guests and day tickets will be allowed from Saturday.

We thank everyone for their patience and hope everyone has a productive rest of the season.

***Fishery update***
This gorgeous weather has triggered the fish to start spawning, so until further notice the lakes are closed to all anglers.

We appreciate your patience and understanding and hope to be back open sometime late next week🀞

SEASONAL UPDATE!

With the weather warming up nicely and the days lengthening greatly we'd just like to update you on a couple of things.

SPAWNING- with spawning time for the fish fast approaching we would just like to remind people that the lakes will close completely once we start seeing signs of this, which will probably come at a moments notice.
If anyone happens to be fishing at the time we will ask you to stop fishing and pack up and we will write you out an open day ticket, to return at a later date of convenience.
We appreciate everyone's cooperation with this, as the health and safety of the fish stocks is paramount to the fishery.

EARLY EVENING SESSION- with the longer days allowing time for a few hours in the early evening for day ticket visitors, we would like to let you know that the latest booking time for these sessions is 4:30. If you think you may arrive a little bit later than this then you can phone up and pay for your ticket before you arrive. But unfortunately anyone arriving after this time who hasn't already booked in, won't be able to fish.

CHILD DAY TICKET PRICES- Just to let you know, the junior day ticket prices are based on a child fishing with a full paying angler. If there is no full paying angler then the price will be the same as an adult day ticket.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and we hope everyone has a successful time on the bank.

Tight Lines Everyone! 🎣

First time on the bank for this stunning full scaled mirror, landed by Jake Winship on a recent visit! 😍

The fish is 1 of 5 lovely mirrors stocked in January, weighing 16lb 12oz, and is sure to be a favourite target amongst our visitors over the coming years.

Congratulations to Mick John Topple for finally catching a carp out of Oak Lake πŸ₯³πŸŽ£πŸ˜πŸ‘

Mick who is one of our seasonal touring pitch customers has had his sights set on catching one of our carp over his last few visits and finally caught one today while float fishing. Whilst playing this fish his designated carp rod sped off but whatever was on the end of it managed to release itself before he could land it also.
John told me he's sure the missed fish was a 25lb'er, and who knows maybe it was 😁🀞

John may have had to wait a little while for his first carp but in the meantime time he has managed to land his first Tench in 30 years weighing in at 5lb 10oz as well as his largest ever Perch weighing in at a whopping 3lb.

Great angling John and I hope this first carp is the start of many more to follow and thanks for sharing your catches with us!
