Today marked s the first day of meteorological Autumn! The day has started with a shower, but it’s set to dry later.
At Planet Balthangie we prefer to go by the astronomical definition of Autumn, rather than the date dictated by the Gregorian calendar.
The astronomical date for this year is 12.06am on the 23rd of September when the Autumn Equinox occurs…..

If you were on site today, the lovely sunny weather and a comfortable 18 degrees, would make it the ideal day to visit Pitfour lake, just along from the ruins of Deer Abbey.
A lovely spot for a gentle stroll around the lake, through woodland in the sight of swans, ducks and the occasional leaping fish!

Another behind the scenes scene…
Hedge cutting day!
Fine and warm if a little cloudy… our guests are out and about again, so another pre-Autumn task under way, now that all the nesting birds are finished with the hedge!

Not to be missed!

After several fine warm and sunny days, today we have West Coast weather! Rather dreich to say the least, but not windy and not cold.
So here’s some blatant advertising!
Everyone is off site this afternoon, so it was a great opportunity to carry out a regular chore… cleaning and disinfecting the bins.
We don’t like dirty smelly bins, so we use our sister Company’s ‘Crud Buster’. It does the job really easily. We like to apply it with a foam gun, but you don’t have to.
One capful in a bucket of water strips the dirt and grease, and more importantly, kills virus and bacteria, including coronavirus in less than 60 seconds!
It’s brilliant for cleaning dirty motorhomes and caravans really quickly without a lot of scrubbing and hard work. We like to keep it quick and simple!
So, whilst our wonderful guests are out for the day enjoying the many attractions in the area, we’re taking the opportunity to get this behind the scenes job done!
Must crack on!

Important note!
Monday 24th August.
SSEN , will be cutting our electricity supply from 9am- 4pm. to carry out maintenance work on the local grid in the area.
Generators will be allowed on site during this time.
On previous occasions, the power has been back on by lunchtime, so the disruption should be kept to a minimum.

So that’s the barley park being harvested….a sign we’ll soon be heading for Autumn, but with still more good weather to come!
You can see the secure dog exercise park to the right, along with the headland dog walk around the barley.

If you’re interested in climate, it has shifted in line with the Milancovich cycles , which follow the patterns below:
Eccentricity: The shape of Earth's orbit around the Sun varies from circle to oval over a 100,000-year cycle, meaning the Sun moves nearer and further away during our journey round the Sun.
Obliquity: The tilt of Earth's axis varies between 22.1° and 24.5° over a 41,000-year cycle.
Precession: Earth wobbles on its rotational axis over a 25,771-year cycle.
The Sun, in conjunction with these cycles, drives our climate, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise, and that you have to pay to ‘fix it’ ! 😉
