The cottage is situated in Uldale, a small rural village in the Lake District National Park between Bassenthwaite Lake and Caldbeck. Major online supermarkets deliver here. The village has a tea room, tennis court and adventure playground and the Snooty Fox Inn - serving a variety of real ales and superb food. This part of Cumbria is beautiful and quiet, excellent for walking away from the crowds. There are walks straight from the door, with sightings of birds of prey and red squirrels commonplace. The northern lakes of Bassenthwaite, Buttermere, Crummock Water, Derwentwater, Ullswater, Loweswater and Ennerdale are a short drive away. There are more fantastic Lakeland pubs in the nearby villages, with plenty of indoor and outdoor activities in Keswick, Cockermouth and the surrounding area. All fuel, towels and bedlinen are supplied. Payphone. One or two well-behaved dogs are welcome (downstairs only and not on furniture please)

Spring is here and the Lakes are amazing, as ever! Amazingly we are AVAILABLE for the Easter holidays so if you want a last minute break, get in touch.

Crummock water is probably our favourite Lake. Always so quiet, always blue and clear, and the sun always seems to shine here. About a 30 minute drive from the cottage and very handy for the Loweswater Inn and the best Steak and Ale pie in the world! The Bassenthwaite views are from the heights of Whinlatter forest Park, a super day out complete with Go Ape! - 20 mins' drive from the cottage. Finally the quiet but amazing Ennerdale with perfectly clear river and haunting, silent lake with towering mountains around...make the long trip down narrow roads - it's worth it to lose the crowds and enjoy the peace of this perfect secret place! (40-50 mins from Emerald Bank Cottage)
