Z is for ZOO. We use to have a zoo in nearby Dalton, but it’s now closed. But who needs a zoo with so many animals bobbing around at Coal Yeat. Get up close and friendly with cows, sheep, hens, birds and toads. Often we have deer visit the adjoining fields and some twitcher guests names over 50 birds they spotted along side four species of bat. It’s a real treat for nature lovers.

Y is for YEAT. In traditional Cumbrian dialect and Northern English, yeat means a gate. Originally from Old English and Old Norse roots, similar to the Scottish word yett. Rarely used in everyday modern speech, it survives heavily in local place names and traditional phrases. So much so we decided to name the properties after the Cumbrian names for sheep counting. Yan is one, Tyan two etc….. will we get to pimp?

X is for X-MAS. We are sold out for the big day but have pre Christmas and twixmas available. Short December breaks are perfect to chill out before the madness. . W is for WEB. On the dog walk I am often stunned my the magic of the spiderweb. Such perfect creations. It’s the season for them and the they are out in force. Beautiful…. But it’s not all natures we, we are of course on the www. Look us up and book online www.coayeatcottages.co.uk. However as we are in the countryside we inevitably get them indoors too. Not the massive black ones….. the annoying wispy hang out in the corner type. They literally appear within an hour of removal. It’s not our cleaner in the stealth of the corner spider!

V IS FOR VIEW. Which ever way you look there is a stunning vista. Always changing, always stunning. From Coal Yeat it’s uninterrupted views out to the Coniston mountains. We often get asked if we tire of this view….. my camera feed begs to differ!

U is for UV LIGHT. Here at Coal Yeat you’ll only ever drink pure spring water. It’s straight from the natural spring. It passes through the uv light to kill all the bugs. It’s delicious and has zero chemicals. So if you run a bath I could have a tinge of yellow, blue or could run clear. It all depends on what’s happening outside. Heavy rain changes the colour. However rest assured it’s pure and delicious and rigorously tested by the council. We’ve been happily drinking it for 22 years and normal to of water tastes of swimming pools

#360 T is for THREESIXTY. Our top tip for a Coal Yeat stay is to head up to 360. The short walk though the estate take you to the highest point and you’ll be rewarded with 360deg views out to the bay and round to the Coniston hills. Windy - yes… worth it 💯. We’ve had proposals up there too. Amazeballs

S is for SKY. Boy do we get some epic skies at Coal Yeat. Open space = open skies. Not going to lie often they are full of the wet stuff but when they clear we are always in for a treat. Come see what card Mother Nature will deal. Always different, always epic.
