Donald Campbell’s iconic Bluebird K7 is set to return to the water on Coniston as part of a special week-long festival marking the 70th anniversary of the craft’s world speed record successes.
Subject to weather and water conditions, organisers hope the famous blue hydroplane could reach speeds of up to 150mph during high-speed running sessions across the week.
Bluebird K7 – The Festival runs from Monday 11 May to Sunday 17 May, with daytime activities from 10am–5pm, alongside evening talks, films and presentations celebrating one of the most famous chapters in British engineering and motorsport history.
The festival will also feature:
🔹 Bluebird K7 running on Coniston Water
🔹 Classic vehicles and displays
🔹 Visits from Blue Bird K3
🔹 Evening talks and film screenings
🔹 Appearances from the pilots and restoration team
🔹 Special guests including Campbell's nephew, Don Wales
Safety, parking and visitor management plans are fully in place, but are encouraging visitors to plan ahead and pre-book parking due to expected demand (better still plan to arrive by bus, bike or foot!)
