🪵🌳Did you know? We design, build and run all our cabins here at Newland Valley.
🏡, No there not kits. We have 3 types of cabins on site, full hand scribed, piece on piece & oak frame.
🏡, No we dont cut the grass on the roofs.
🏡, Yes we really like wood.
🏡, The chains are used instead of downpipes.
🏡, Full scibed cabin can move upto 6inches while it settles into place.
🏡, Damson & Pear were built 1st.
🏡, Douglas Fir wood was sourced from Siberia & Coniston, France for the oak.
🏡, Which is our favourite? It changes whenever we do jobs or upgrade something.
🏡, We've never stayed overnight in any of the cabins.
🏡, When each cabin is finished we have them guest tested, beds, showers, etc.
🏡, Poles on Blackberrys roof, are snow poles a traditional feature to stop snow sliding off sharper pitches.
🏡, The longest log was 14m long as a tie beam on Guardswoods roof.
🏡, The trusses needed for Guardswoods roof were to big to manufacture, we had to cut over 10 round logs into beams to construct them.
🏡, Blackberry was clad in douglas fir, and burnished to protect the wood. A traditional method called shou sugi ban.
🏡, It takes about 18 months to build each cabin.
🏡, Piece on Piece cabin logs came fully barked, each log has to be de-barked then peeled before we can start building.
🏡, 40 tonnes of soil went onto Guardswoods green roof.
