After missing out last week due to the spring tide and high wind, this week we managed to get the paddleboard out twice! First we were back at Blakeney Quay paddling along the tidal creeks and today we headed in land to the River Bure in Coltishall after a morning spent in an electric day boat on the Norfolk Broads. We love all the outdoor activities a holiday in Norfolk has to offer.

Yesterday's adventure was a trip to Holkham Hall, one of our favourite places in North Norfolk. But this time the journey was just as important as the destination. Instead of driving our bikes to Holkham, we left the car and rode our bikes from the front door of Bay Tree Cottage. Not many tourist destinations 5 miles from a beautiful coastline have country lanes as quiet as we experienced yesterday. Think about 5 cars passed us in 20 minutes. Perfect for our younger riders. We also rode along part of National Cycle Route 1 which was off road. Norfolk is famous for turkey and we even came across our Christmas dinner en-route!

Once at Holkham, we headed straight to the Food Festival in need of sustenance which we got from the Duck Truck before playing cricket on the front lawn and then having a run around the outdoor adventure playground. It was good to see the resident herd of deer enjoying the afternoon sunshine.

By the time we made it back to Bay Tree we had ridden about 15 miles in total. We were all very tired but proud of our achievement. And the boys had their best night's sleep of the holiday last night!

Rookie error this morning. Checked tide times for high tide but not weather forecast for wind. And who knew spring tide happened twice a month EVERY month 🫨 Suffice to say we lasted about 30 mins out on the paddleboard and kayak at Blakeney Quay going absolutely nowhere into the wind 🤣 We'll try again in a few days and may also venture further afield and in land to the Broads. On the upside, we had delicious fresh seafood sandwiches from By The Quayside on Blakeney Quay 👍🏻

As regular visitors to North Norfolk, this time we're trying to do things we've not done before. So today we drove an hour south from Walsingham to meet friends in Thetford Forest where we enjoyed a fun filled family day in the great outdoors.

We spent the whole day at High Lodge and still didn't have time to get round everything. The playground is vast and ideal for kids of all ages. The musical equipment dotted around the nature trail was an exciting find for the children. And all of this was free (just have to pay for car parking).

Food in the cafe was high quality and the 18 hole adventure golf (£5 pp), which was really well maintained, kept 4 kids, 4 adults + 2 dogs entertained for a couple of hours!

We will definitely return and with our bikes next time to explore more of the trails. We also want to try the archery and may even hire one of your bbq pitches.

We want to keep you informed of the tide times to help prevent beach goers from being cut off by the tide.

During 2022 we launched 34 times to assist beach goers that had been cut of by the tide.

Our beach goes out a long way which is great for walking and enjoying our coastline; however, there is a real danger of being cut off by the incoming tide. By being aware of the tide times and having the knowledge that you must be back on the main part of the beach where the sand is soft and dry at least 4 hours before high tide, you can help yourself and family remain safe.
