Part coffee stop, part beautifully curated treasure trove of homewares, gifts and local provisions, it's one of those places you pop into for a morning coffee and somehow leave with a bag full of things you didn't know you needed.

Tucked away in the pretty village of Stiffkey, with its flint cottages, winding lanes and little river running through, it's perfectly placed for a coffee and a browse before heading out towards Stiffkey Meals Dunes for a walk along the coast path.

There's a sweet spot on the North Norfolk coast when the summer begins to slip into autumn. The days can still be warm, but the light is softer, and at Holkham, you can walk through the pinewoods and emerge onto that enormous stretch of sand with barely another person in sight. Shoes off if the weather allows, dogs racing ahead, and miles of beach to wander.

It's also one of the most rewarding times of year for nature lovers. As the seasons change, the coast and surrounding marshes become a haven for migrating and wintering birds, bringing birdwatchers from far and wide to see what's arriving along this remarkable stretch of coastline.

Then back through the pines, perhaps via a cosy pub for lunch, and home to Barsham.
