First build project of this winter underway - renovation of an old shepherds hut for staff accomodation at reception.

Lots of windows to give a good view of what’s going on around the site 😂👍. The windows and doors are ‘reloved’ ♥️ - they would be in landfill now otherwise.

We removed the old corrugated iron, cleaned up and fitted the windows and doors. Next will insulate, lapboard and paint, I can’t wait to see how it will look 🤩.

My thanks to everyone who worked on this, a great weekends graft 😅👍

SW Coast path amble number 2

Kingston to Swanage - 9 miles approx - set off at 10.30 on a stunning September day and finished late at 18.00 because of long dawdles at St Aldhelms Chapel, Winspit, Seacombe, Dancing Ledge and Durlston Country Park.

Take the food and drink you need for the day on this one - no food places on the path, you could take a long diversion to the Square and Compass at Worth Matravers from Winspit.

Currently the SW Coast Path has a long diversion inland to Kingston because of rockfalls at Houns Tout so this was an ideal start point.

So easy by bus from Primrose Fields - for this section I caught the X50 from East Stoke Church down Kingston then the X50 back from Swanage after yummy fish and chips from The Fish Plaice.

Inspired by the South West Coast Walkers who camped this summer - I gave it a go!

I planned approx 10 mile sections per day - setting off at 10 am and finishing 4-6 pm depending how long I dawdled at nice spots lol. I walked West to East then the wind is generally behind me, which makes a huge difference if the weather not great.

SW Coast Path Lulworth to Kingston - 12 miles approx - set off at 11.00 on a stunning September day and finished late at 18.00 because of long dawdles at Tyneham and the Fine Foundation Wild Seas Centre at Kimmeridge.

This route crosses the Lulworth Range so check when the paths are open to the public at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/lulworth-access-times

Currently the SW Coast Path has a long diversion inland to Kingston because of rockfalls at Houns Tout so this made an ideal end point to catch the bus back.

So easy by bus from Primrose Fields - for this section I caught the X50 from East Stoke Church down to the main car park at West Lulworth then the X50 back from Kingston near the Scott Arms.

Primrose Fields has a bus stop right next to it (East Stoke Church) giving easy transport on First Bus’s fantastic Jurassic Coaster service and More Bus’s Purbeck Breezers to Weymouth, Lulworth, Swanage, Poole and even Abbotsbury and Lyme Regis - so the whole Dorset section of the South West Coast path is easy to access. Many people who are challenging themselves to walk the path stay with me for that reason. Or if that all sounds too energetic it’s perfect for just getting down to the beach without worrying about the car and parking. The Coaster also stops at Bovington Tank Museum and Monkey World.

Thanks to all the lovely campers who made 2024 such a great summer on Primrose Fields. We had veterans motorbiking to the DDay celebrations, athletes challenging themselves to walk and run the South West Coast Path, cyclists on their way to John O’Groats or across the South Coast on Route 2, a family making a last stop before heading home after a year long world tour, a yacht club youth fleet enjoying team games, Tankfest and Camp Bestival goers, the Sea Cadets, several groups of young people in care who must have faced tough times but were able to relax and enjoy the space and eachothers company and of course countless friends, families, couples and single travellers all enjoying a campfire and some time on Primrose Fields. I will post dates for next year soon and I look forward to seeing what 2025 will bring 🤗👍

Thought I’d share some of the wildflowers out on the field at the moment. Honeysuckle is blooming in the hedgerows, the wild rose by reception is giving a lovely show, the oxeye daisies are starting to blossom and red campion/foxgloves too.
