Warkworth Stories ✨

A series sharing a little of the history, places, and details that make Warkworth so special.

This time, St Lawrence’s Church - tucked just behind the main street in the heart of the village.

Parts of the church date back to the 12th century, with centuries of additions and changes shaping what you see today. It has long been at the centre of village life, quietly overlooking Warkworth as it has grown and changed around it.

A small detail to look out for - inside, you’ll find medieval effigies and historic features that give a real sense of the church’s age and character.

If you needed a reason to visit Northumberland…

Warkworth Stories ✨

During the Second World War, the long, open stretch of the Northumberland coastline was considered a potential landing point for invasion.

As a result, defences were quickly put in place along the coast. These concrete blocks were designed to stop tanks and vehicles from moving inland, forming part of a wider network of coastal protection.

You’ll still find them scattered along the beach between Warkworth and Alnmouth today - a quiet reminder of the area’s past.

This is one of our first furry guests, gorgeous Rosie who came to stay a few weeks ago💗

Riverwalk Cottage is our only pet‑friendly property and this little guest clearly approved.
