The long line stops the heavy float from spooking the fish.The Free-Lining Rig: Best for close-range margin fishing. Tie a wide-gape hook directly to your main line with zero weights or floats. This offers the most natural, stealthy presentation possible.The Candle or Bubble Float Rig: Best for mid-range fishing. A semi-buoyant bubble float adds casting weight without crashing heavily into the water.

🍞 Top Baits for Surface CarpChum Mixers / Dog Biscuits: The ultimate choice. Hair-rig them using a bait band or drill them out.Floating Pellets: Use large 8mm–11mm expandable or floating trout pellets to match what the carp are fed on commercial waters.Bread Crust or Flake: Highly visible and irresistible, though easily stolen by small nuisance fish like rudd or ducks.Imitation/Plastic Baits: Fake floating corn or foam pieces hold their buoyancy indefinitely and cannot be pecked off by small fish.

🚀 Step-by-Step Tactical GuideObserve and Locate: Spend time watching the water. Look for fish actively sucking in debris, rather than just "sunbathing" or cruising.Introduce Freebies Gradually: Feed a handful of dog biscuits or floating pellets every few minutes. Do not dump a large bucket at once, or the fish will fill up and drift away.Wait for Competitive Feeding: Do not cast your hook bait until multiple carp are actively and confidently competing for the free food.Cast Past the Fish: Never throw your rig directly on top of a big carp. Cast 15 yards past them and gently reel the bait back into their feeding path.Keep Line Off the Water: Grease your main line so it floats, or lift your rod tip high to prevent the line from sinking and dragging your bait under.
