🍂🍂5 Things To Do On An Autumn Day 🍂🍂
We’re rather fond of autumn here at Kittisford Barton Farm. Crisp mornings, golden leaves, muddy walks, darker skies and evenings that are made for hot tubs and cosy swims.
If you’re joining us this autumn, here are five of our favourite ways to spend the day:
🧚 Fairy door hunting – head into the woods and see if you can find all 12 hidden fairy doors.
🏊 An evening swim – switch off the lights in the spa hall, turn on the pool lights and swim as the sun sets.
🌌 Stargazing from the hot tub – we’re right on the edge of the Exmoor Dark Skies Reserve, so autumn evenings are perfect for looking up from the warmth of the wood-fired hot tubs.
🥾 A proper welly walk – borrow a pair of our wellies and head down through the farm to Watery Lane. Mud is very much part of the experience!
🥩 Dinner at the pub – finish the day at The Martlet Inn with a Dexter steak from our very own organic herd, reared less than three miles away from the pub.
Autumn might mean shorter days, but there’s still plenty to enjoy here. 🍁

F is for Family ❤️
The Cottage Beyond is, and always has been, a family-run business.

The Cottage Beyond was the Ker family home until 2012 and what began with Alan and Christine has grown into something that now involves the next generation too. As Alan and Christine begin to take a well-earned step towards retirement, the next generation of John, Emellia and Rachael are helping to bring the business forward adding The Nest and Yonder View.

And it seems the generation beyond is already keen to get involved! In school holidays, they are fetching logs for the hot tubs, helping in the garden, making beds and of course, making the most of the pool! 🥰🏊‍♀️

The Cottage Beyond is very much a family affair, and we feel incredibly lucky that so many of the people who help make it what it is are the people closest to us.

Here's to the next chapter and maybe even a few more generations to come. ❤️

F is for Fairy Doors

Earlier in the year, some mysterious doors appeared in the woods! And since then, guests of all ages have been enjoying exploring our new fairy door trail.

Our local pub, which we supply our organic Dexter beef to, is running a jamboree today! John is taking up one of our Dexter cows and her calf. Pop up to enjoy some delicious food and drink.

🌦️ THE WEATHER is keeping us on our toes!

But a bit of rain isn’t stopping the Langford Jamboree! 🌦

We are moving everything to the pub but......

🐷 Hog roast is cooking
🎨 Face paints at the ready
🎪 Games & circus fun
✂️ Crafts
🎶 Music
🍻 Beer flowing — conveniently also an excellent rain shelter 😂
🔥 BBQ fired up
🎟️ Raffle prizes galore!

We’ve come this far… we’re Jamboree-ing whatever the British weather throws at us! ☔️🍻🐷

⏰ 12 TIL LATE!

See you soon! ❤️

We found ourselves spending rather a lot of time wallowing in Watery Lane this summer to keep cool in the intense heat – and it seems the farm’s wildlife had exactly the same idea! 🐦💦

Here’s a little selection of the birdlife making the most of the cool, shallow water in the stream at the bottom of the farm.

Who can blame them? I wonder if they are as relieved as we are to have some cool again!

A little glimpse of what goes on when no one is watching.

Look out at the end for the second doe with her twins - this is at least the second time this doe has had twin fawns.

Our guests may not always get to spot our wildlife in person but thankfully our nature cams spot some very special moments

E is for Exmoor

Wild, beautiful and wonderfully unspoilt, Exmoor National Park is Somerset's greatest treasures and we are so lucky to be right on its doorstep. Endless skies, peaceful rivers, charming villages, ancient woodlands, incredible nature and some of the best views around, Exmoor has it all! No two visits are the same and there are countless amazing spots to visit. Take a hike to Somserset's highest point at Dunkery Beacon, walk across Britain's longest 'clapper bridge' at Tarr Steps, explore one of the UK's largest and oldest oak woodlands at Horner Woods and see if you can spot the Beavers at the Holnicote Estate.

D is for Dark Skies

One of the most magical experiences during a stay with us begins after the sun goes down. We are close to Exmoor National Park, home to Europe's first International Dark Sky Reserve where some of the darkest skies in the country reveal the clearest view of the skies above! Away from the glow of lights, there's something special about looking up and seeing the night sky in all its glory. Experience it here at the farm or head up to the hills for an evening with the stars.

Every Autumn, Exmoor National Park hosts Exmoor Dark Skies Festival with a series of events for all ages taking place between Friday 16th October to Sunday 1st November 2026! Keep an eye on Exmoor National Park socials for the release of this year's programme.
