Preparations for the Wells Carnival, which has been taking place annually for over 100 years, are in full-swing for the 10-day event.

Tide times

Tidal cut off, from our beautiful beaches, is the number one reason for a Wells Lifeboat call out. Two out of every three people Wells Volunteer Lifeboat Crews rescue are cut off by the tide. In 2022 we rescued 52 people, that’s an average of a person every week of the year!

When choosing a beach, between Brancaster Staithe and Cley, to visit there are two easy tips to remember to help keep you and your family safer:
1. The further you walk past the high water mark, the higher the risk of tidal cut off and the less time you will have to enjoy your destination.

2. To avoid tidal cut off get back to the main part of the beach, dry sand/land at least four hours before Wells Bar high tide time, with no more drains or ditches to cross.

These two tips are especially important if you are choosing to visit more remote beaches, such as Scolt Head Island and Bob Hall Sands. These are frequent locations for Lifeboat call outs.
