Somerset Art Weeks Festival 2019

This autumn it’s all about a very special festival in Somerset, from 21 September to 6 October the annual and ever popular Somerset Arts Weeks Festival returns, transforming the county into a showcase of creativity and innovation. This year marks the Silver Anniversary of Somerset Art Weeks. Since its first event in 1994 it has grown to one that featuries 160 venues and artists, art groups, organisations and one-off exhibitions. This is now the largest visual arts event in the county, investing in the arts community and enriching lives.Over 16 days more than 400 artists will be showcasing their work in unique venues across Somerset. This year the festival is exhibition-based and focuses on celebrating artistic ability and individuality with a hugely diverse range of crafts, skills and media being incorporated into the event. The eclectic mix of artists ensures that the festival will be not only visually exciting but also stimulating for the visitor. Whatever your taste or view on art is, the diversity of art forms and artists guarantees that there is something for everyone; from contemporary art installations, video and sculpture, to print making, photography, painting and ceramics, Somerset Arts Week has it all.

The Somerset Art Weeks free guide provides a fully-illustrated introduction and commentary on all of the venues and artworks on display during the event. The guide is available in tourist information centres and libraries across Somerset and is available for our guests in the Beanacre Barn.

Starling Spectacular at Ham Wall

Winter is an amazing time of the year on the Avalon Marshes! Why not take a short break in the Beanacre Barn? Only a few miles from this cosy award winning retreat, you can go in search of some of the fantastic wildlife that makes the Somerset Levels its home during the winter. Look out for fishing great white egrets, dabbling ducks, gliding marsh harrier and of course the ever elusive bittern before finishing your walk by watching starlings streaming out of the sky into their roost for the night. A truly mesmerising sight!
