Sitting gracefully on the waterfront in West Cowes, the Cowes Mermaid has spent more than two decades watching life unfold across the Solent. From arriving ferries and racing yachts to spectacular sunsets and busy sailing days, she sees everyone who comes and goes from our beautiful Island.

Created by local sculptor Anthony Smith and unveiled in 2002, the bronze mermaid celebrates Cowes' deep maritime heritage and connection to the sea. Over the years, she has become one of the town's most photographed landmarks and a much-loved symbol of the waterfront.

If you're arriving in West Cowes by ferry, keep your eyes peeled, you may just spot her sitting by the water's edge, quietly welcoming you to the Isle of Wight. She is the perfect reminder that life here has always been shaped by the sea.
