🚶‍♀️Have you ever considered walking around an island? Well now you can...

To mark Corin Haines 25th season working at Colchester United Community Foundation, we are gathering interested parties who may want to join us for a CHARITY WALK around Mersea Island on Sunday 27th April 2025.

A unique 13 mile walk around the most easterly inhabited island in Britain, come and join us and complete your Around the Island Walk.

‘The Legend of the Mersea Island Sand Whale’. It’s amazing how the sand is sitting to form this perfect whale tail!

‘Legend has it, there was an old whale who had spent his entire life exploring the vast depths of the ocean. He had heard tales of a legendary island called Mersea, said to be the most beautiful place in the world. The old whale became obsessed with the idea of seeing this enchanting island before his time came to an end.

‘Driven by his desire, the old whale embarked on a long and arduous journey across the ocean. He swam tirelessly, battling treacherous currents and enduring storms, all in pursuit of his dream. Along the way, he encountered countless creatures who marveled at his determination and wished him luck on his quest.

‘Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the old whale caught sight of a distant landmass. His heart filled with hope as he recognized the unmistakable beauty of Mersea island. With renewed strength, he pushed forward, propelled by his sheer will and excitement.

‘But as he reached the shores of Mersea, exhaustion overcame him. The old whale, now weak and frail, could no longer swim. He washed up on the sandy beach, his massive body becoming one with the land he had longed to see.

‘And so, the old whale remains on Mersea island to this day, transformed into a majestic mound of sand. Visitors from far and wide come to marvel at the sight, knowing that beneath the grains lies the spirit of a creature who pursued his dreams until the very end.

‘The legend of the old whale serves as a reminder to all who hear it, to never give up on their aspirations, no matter how impossible they may seem. For even if we don't achieve our goals in the way we expect, the journey itself can be a testament to our strength and determination’. - Luke Johnson
