There’s a side of tourism and hospitality that people don’t often see, and we wanted to share a little of that honestly.
This week, we had a guest stay for less than 24 hours and leave the room in a very poor condition. Sadly, this included a nearly new carpet being burned, which now has to be replaced at a cost of over £800, along with other damage that takes both time and money to put right.
Moments like this can be disheartening, especially for small, independent businesses. Costs like these don’t just disappear, they have to be considered when setting our prices, alongside the wider pressures we’re all facing with the rising cost of living. For businesses, those pressures are often even greater, with higher unit costs for things like energy and supplies.
That said, this is only one side of the story. The overwhelming majority of our guests are kind, respectful, and supportive. Many of you return time and again, and over the years we’ve come to know a lot of you not just as guests, but as friends. Your support genuinely means everything to us and is what keeps us going, even during challenging times.
Most, especially our guests are understanding when it comes to pricing and what we offer. There is so much behind the scenes that isn’t always visible, and we do our very best to balance fairness, quality, and sustainability in a difficult economic climate.
Thank you to those who continue to support us, treat our space with care, and recognise the effort that goes into creating a welcoming place to stay.
These photos is just a little of what we found.
