We’d like to welcome our newest member of staff who started working for us today, my mum. Just over a year off 80 years old and she’s started working again. Her first day got off to a great start, she was on time and the place is smelling beautiful.

*UPDATE*
Thank you all for your messages of support. Thankfully, the woman who caused the damage to one of our rooms has been arrested but not before going on to cause damage at a guesthouse nearby. She’s wanted in Devon and Cornwall too so hopefully she’ll get the help she needs as she clearly has mental issues and/or on drugs

PCSOs Sadie, Tyler and Lucy have had a busy Friday late shift so far!

We first attended a report of Anti-Social Behaviour in the Town Centre. This resulted in a youth being issued a dispersal notice for 24 hours, meaning they cannot attend the town centre and if they do within that 24 hours, they can be arrested.

Whilst leaving the area, we have spotted a female who was wanted in the Devon and Cornwall area, she was arrested however further enquiries have been made that she has caused damage to hotel rooms throughout the town. She is currently assisting us with enquiries into this.

We then received a further call of Anti-Social Behaviour in Jubilee Retail Park, the group didn't appear to want to speak to us and ran off before we had the chance to speak to them.

We are about to hand over to our night turn Officers who will be out and about keeping you safe! 👮

There’s a side of tourism and hospitality that people don’t often see, and we wanted to share a little of that honestly.

This week, we had a guest stay for less than 24 hours and leave the room in a very poor condition. Sadly, this included a nearly new carpet being burned, which now has to be replaced at a cost of over £800, along with other damage that takes both time and money to put right.

Moments like this can be disheartening, especially for small, independent businesses. Costs like these don’t just disappear, they have to be considered when setting our prices, alongside the wider pressures we’re all facing with the rising cost of living. For businesses, those pressures are often even greater, with higher unit costs for things like energy and supplies.

That said, this is only one side of the story. The overwhelming majority of our guests are kind, respectful, and supportive. Many of you return time and again, and over the years we’ve come to know a lot of you not just as guests, but as friends. Your support genuinely means everything to us and is what keeps us going, even during challenging times.

Most, especially our guests are understanding when it comes to pricing and what we offer. There is so much behind the scenes that isn’t always visible, and we do our very best to balance fairness, quality, and sustainability in a difficult economic climate.

Thank you to those who continue to support us, treat our space with care, and recognise the effort that goes into creating a welcoming place to stay.

These photos is just a little of what we found.

Yesterday, we lifted some floorboards to run some cables and found a piece of newspaper dated this day in 1978, 48 years ago today. It advertised coach holidays to Amsterdam, Alicante and other places for around £60 return. Today, the same holiday would cost around £1000. Wouldn’t it be lovely to go back to those days ❤️
