It’s been so busy at The View lately, so busy that we decided to treat ourselves and, when one deserves a treat, where better place to go than Catch ()? We haven’t been for a while, far too long really, and our expectations, as always, were high. We were not disappointed. From beginning to end service was impeccable. The waiting team, ably led by super-friendly, super-efficient Daisy (she even gave an excellent ‘baa’ when describing the goat’s cheese to guests on the next table. Above and beyond I say) was attentive without being intrusive and they were all very knowledgable about the dishes. The dishes - where do I start? We’ve frequented Catch from day 1 and the food just gets better and better. Impossible but true. Ben Champkin ( ) and Chef Chris (or ‘our Chris’ as we call him for he stayed at The View whilst going through the interview process) are masters at their craft. The tasters of cuttlefish croquette with wild garlic and scallop, roe, savoury and rhubarb elicited sighs of delight and things just got better and better. The focaccia almost floated off the plate - so light and fluffy- and the trout pastrami was a revelation. Lettuce gazpacho (who knew?) was set alight by the hint of wasabi and perfectly complemented the gilt head bream. We enjoyed a little lobster tail treat (just because) before concluding the savouries with the exceptional sea bass, Vadouvan sauce, spinach and fig leaf. I didn’t think we’d find room for the Basque cheesecake, strawberry and woodruff but we did - thank goodness. What a lovely evening. Thank you Team Catch - you smashed it.
