The King came to town. The dip was taken. History was recreated.

What a fantastic weekend celebrating one of Weymouth’s most famous traditions and seeing the King’s Dip brought back to life on the beach.

We’re proud to have supported this wonderful community project and loved seeing so many people getting involved.

A little bit of Regency history has arrived at The Gresham. 👑

Our King’s Dip bunting is up and ready for a weekend celebrating Weymouth’s royal bathing heritage.

If you’re heading into town over the weekend, keep an eye out for the festivities and discover the story behind King George III’s famous dips in Weymouth Bay.

With summer very near, we thought it was the perfect time to share another fantastic place to visit during a stay in Weymouth.

Just a mile down the road from us, Weymouth SEA LIFE Adventure Park is a brilliant spot to explore an underwater world, discover incredible marine life, and enjoy something a little different by the sea.

From glowing jellyfish and colourful clownfish to sharks, seals, rockpools, penguins and plenty more, there’s so much to see as you make your way around.

One of our favourites has to be Fairy Penguin Island. Weymouth SEA LIFE is home to Europe’s only fairy penguin colony, and earlier this year they welcomed a very special new arrival, Henry, who hatched in January 2026.

It’s a lovely mix of marine life, conservation, discovery and proper Weymouth seaside charm.

Definitely one to add to your list if you’re staying with us this summer.

We’d recommend checking opening times and booking ahead before you visit.

A familiar sight on Weymouth Esplanade, and the perfect link to the King’s Dip. 👑🌊

With the event getting closer, the bathing machine is a lovely reminder of Weymouth’s seaside history and the town’s connection with King George III.

The Gresham may be over 200 years old (and she’s aged beautifully, if we do say so), but that does mean no air con in the rooms.

Instead, we embrace a more traditional way to keep cool:

🌊 …and of course, the best remedy of all - a refreshing dip in the sea just steps from our door!

We’re proud to be sponsoring The King’s Dip project, a wonderful celebration of Weymouth’s history, storytelling and local creativity.

The book, The Forgotten King, has been written by a local historian, with illustrations by local primary school children, bringing the story of King George III and his famous sea bathing in Weymouth Bay to life.

As many of you know, we love Weymouth’s Regency history here at The Gresham, so it feels very special to support a project that shares that history with the next generation.

Here’s a little excerpt from the book, alongside the official King’s Dip poster.
