Just a 20 minute walk down the rail trail from Fairhaven. If you haven’t been…you should!

One of the best places in England for a pint can be found just a short drive from Whitby 🍺

The tiny Birch Hall Inn at Beck Hole has been named the second-best pub for a pint in England in a new ranking by travel website Enjoy Travel.

Described as a “genuine time capsule”, the historic pub has just two small drinking rooms with an old-fashioned sweet shop sandwiched between them.

There’s no WiFi or phone signal, with the focus on good b**r, conversation, and traditional pub atmosphere. If you’re planning a visit, remember to bring cash — it’s cash only.

Visitors can enjoy local b**r alongside simple favourites including sandwiches, pork pies and traditional sweets, while a cosy log fire adds to the old-world charm.

The Grade II listed pub sits in the picturesque hamlet of Beck Hole, below Goathland and only a short drive from Whitby.

Not bad for one of Yorkshire’s tiniest pubs. 🍻

So it’s the 1st October and the baskets are still blooming in this lovely autumn sunshine…winter may still seem far off but we think it’s time to remind you of our winter offering. From 1st November our diary is open for single night stays but for anyone booking 2 nights or more we are running our fantastic winter deal again where you can save £20 per night on a double room stay – so that’s just £103 per night in a standard room including breakfast. And once again we are offering our ever popular winter warmer dinner - a delicious 2 course, home cooked meal on certain evenings for only £22 per person (price held from last year).
Winter can be a magical time in the North Yorks Moors and coast and if you haven’t experienced it then this is a great opportunity. Book on the website or just give us a call. We look forward to welcoming you.

Fabulous walk up on the moor today. A proper walk for Mabel now that it’s not so hot! And the heather is bloomin’ lovely….will be at its peak soon.

It’s official! The Goathland hotel is going to be renamed and rebranded as The Aidensfield Arms! A Heartbeat themed refurb is planned and with Tricia Penrose as co-owner the pub is going to be even more of a Mecca for Heartbeat fans. Just popped into the Goathland Hotel to wish the new landlord Jason Wood the best of luck with the new venture. Many of you will know Jason from his days at the Mallyan Spout Hotel and latterly the Inn on the Moor. This iconic establishment could not be in safer hands and this is fantastic news for the village and for our guests here at Fairhaven Country Guest House just 10 mins stroll away. Still pondering a last minute summer getaway?
Love the coast but not the traffic and parking?

Then Fairhaven is the answer! Park up in our large, free car park and let the train (or bus) take the strain. The NYMR are now running daily services to Whitby and Pickering from Goathland station and there is also the Coastliner bus service, a cheap but scenic 30 minute journey to the centre of the action.

Even if the coast is not your thing, Fairhaven makes the perfect touring base to experience everything that the fabulous North Yorks Moors has to offer this summer.
