🐣 Exciting (and adorable!) news from our garden… 🐣

Over the past month, we’ve had a very special guest staying with us – a wild duck we affectionately named Daisy has been nesting peacefully in the back garden of our holiday cottage! 💛

Last night and into this morning, Daisy’s eggs began to hatch – and we were thrilled to welcome nine tiny ducklings into the world. Sadly, one didn’t make it, but Daisy and her eight ducklings were safely rescued and relocated this morning by the amazing team at Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary. 🦆💚

We want to say a huge thank you to them for their incredible support, and also to every guest who has stayed with us over the past month. You’ve all been so understanding and respectful, giving Daisy the peace and quiet she needed. We’re truly grateful!

What a magical little chapter it’s been here – cottage life at its sweetest! 🌿✨

Places to get a good Coffee ☕️ & Cake🍰 whilst enjoying your stay One The Sidings Whitby

Great place for a coffee and gorgeous cake. Perfect for a walk in the forest … 🌳 pack your walking boots 🥾 and head over to Falling Foss, approx 15 minute drive from Whitby .. Even doggie friendly, Falling Foss Waterfall Tea Garden .
A great waterfall to see and possibly a paddle in the river if it’s a fine day ..🌞
Take five minutes to read the history board, quite interesting!
Check times and days of opening before heading down but certainly worth a visit .. 🌼 watch out for our next place to find good cake!

Are you a morning person who loves to watch a beautiful sunrise, or do you prefer to see the sunset at the end of the day? If you visit Whitby you can wander up to the west cliff and be lucky enough to experience both. 🌅

Whitby, despite being on the East coast actually faces due North, and its geography can seem quite confusing without having a map to hand. It is one of the only places where at certain times of the year you can see the sun rise and set over the sea. It’s stunning ☀️

If you’re up for a walk whilst staying at One The Sidings this is a really nice walk to do..plus a nice pub at the end of it for your lunch. 🌮
The track starts at the end of the row of the cottages, turn left out of the cottage and at the end of the row, drop down on your left to cross the railway line, head down the side of the railway track, please take care crossing! 🛤️ turn right on to the safe path. (It’s easy but ask if your not sure)
You really can’t go wrong follow the path, you will walk under the famous viaduct. Keep on the path till you come to Ruswarp, the pub is clear and is called The bridge. 🥙Great food and a lovely village. (Approx half hour)⏱️
You can go a couple of ways back to Whitby or follow the same path back.
Simple and enjoyable walk especially if the steam train is running. 🛤️🚂
