Robin Hood’s Bay to Ravenscar Coastal Walk. 🌊 Follow the full route. 👇

Looking for a dramatic Yorkshire Coast adventure? This route starts on the Cleveland Way at Robin Hood’s Bay, climbing above the cliffs through farmland and woodland before passing Boggle Hole and heading towards Ravenscar. From there, the trail drops to the beach for a rugged return over sand and rocks.

📍 Length: 12.1km
⛰️ Elevation gain: 494m
⏱️ Time: 4–4.5 hours

Expect muddy paths, slippery rocks, steep descents and incredible sea views, so sturdy footwear is a must.

⚠️ Important: This walk can only be completed at low tide. The beach sections become impassable as the tide comes in, with high cliffs behind you. Always check tide times before setting off.

🦭 Keep an eye out for the seal colony on the beach section. It’s an amazing sight, but please keep well back, stay quiet and avoid startling them.

Parking is pay-and-display at Robin Hood’s Bay, and the village has plenty of lovely spots for a post-walk drink or bite to eat.

Hayburn Wyke ✨ A hidden gem on the Yorkshire coast. Worth every step from Robin Hood’s Bay 💚🚶‍♀️

Hidden gem: Hayburn Wyke, North Yorkshire 🌿🌊

Located around a 30 minute drive from Whitby, Hayburn Wyke is one of those coastal spots that feels like a proper little discovery.

Follow the path from the 18th-century Hayburn Wyke Inn through peaceful woodland. You’ll eventually reach a secluded rocky cove with clear waters, dramatic coastline, and two beautiful waterfalls cascading onto the beach.

The name itself has history too: “Hayburn” comes from an Anglo-Saxon word linked to a hunting enclosure by a stream, while “Wyke” is Norse for a sea inlet or creek.

It’s a gorgeous place for a quiet wander, fossil hunting, rock pooling, and taking in the views, but plan ahead. There are no facilities on the beach, the path can be steep, and swimming isn’t recommended because of cold water and strong currents.

Walkers can reach Hayburn Wyke via the Cleveland Way coastal path or the Cinder Track, the old railway route between Scarborough and Whitby. Popular routes include Cloughton to Hayburn Wyke and Ravenscar to Hayburn Wyke, both offering beautiful coastal views and chances to spot wildlife.

After exploring, head back through the woods to the Hayburn Wyke Inn for a well-earned drink or bite to eat. It’s dog-friendly, family-friendly and full of cosy country pub charm.
