I had such a lovely phone call this week 💛

A lady who’d stayed in Albany last weekend rang for a chat and to tell us how much they’d enjoyed their holiday. She mentioned the personal touches and how we’d thought about so many of the things they needed. It was just really lovely to hear, and even lovelier to hear they’d like to come back.

We got chatting about other places they could visit too, so they could have a few different breaks throughout the year. I gave afew suggestions, but between us we struggled to think of many.

She told me how hard it had been to find places that were as accessible as they said they were. That stayed with me. There’s so much to think about before you’ve even booked, and you need to feel confident that what you need will be there when you arrive.

I’d love us to have more of these conversations. Ben and I are always happy to recommend other places. We know people want to explore different parts of the country, and we’d love them to have more choice and somewhere they can properly relax.

There’s room for all of us doing this, and so much we can learn from each other. Sharing ideas and supporting one another can only help make accessible holidays across the UK better.

♿ It’s often the little things that make the biggest difference when planning a holiday! 💛

One of the things we’re asked about most here at Summerfield Farm is what specialist equipment we have available in our cottages.

And it’s completely understandable! When you’re planning a holiday with additional care or accessibility needs, knowing what’s already there (and what you don’t need to pack!) can make things so much easier.

Over the years we’ve added quite a bit to our equipment collection, and we’re always looking at what else we can do to make staying with us that little bit easier.

From profiling beds and ceiling track hoists to mobile hoists, shower chairs, shower trolleys and rise and recline chairs, there’s quite a lot tucked away here!

So we’ve put together some information showing some of the equipment we’ve got available. 👇

💛 And the best bit? We don’t charge extra for hiring any of our equipment!

The price you see when booking online includes the cottage and all the specialist equipment you need for your stay. No additional hire charges or unexpected extras.

The only additional costs are for dogs or if you need a seventh bed in one of our larger properties.

Not every cottage has exactly the same setup, and a few of our more specialist bits need to be reserved in advance, so it’s always worth dropping us a message if you’re unsure about anything.

We know that what works brilliantly for one person might not work for another, and we’re always happy to have a chat about what you need and which cottage might work best.

Because at the end of the day, you should be able to look forward to your holiday without worrying about how on earth you’re going to fit everything in the car! 💛

Breaking up the admin with a lunchtime dog walk always makes the emails a bit easier to come back to 🍂

A bit of sea air, or a stomp out in the woods for today and a good stretch of the legs, then back to the desk with a cuppa. Our labs Guinness and Wh**ky would happily skip the back to work bit 🤣

It’s lovely seeing our guests’ dogs enjoying the walks from the farm too. Usually followed by a good snooze while their humans put the kettle on! We welcome your furry friends to all our properties, so you never have to worry about leaving them behind.

Home this morning, booked again by this afternoon… that’s made our Monday 💛

Our lovely weekend guests sent us this message after getting home from Freedom Lodge, and this afternoon they booked to come back next year.

“Home from home” is probably the nicest thing anyone could say to us. We’ve put so much thought into the lodge, from the accessible equipment to the little comforts that help everyone settle in and enjoy being away together.

Knowing they’ve had a lovely weekend and want to do it all again means a lot. Thank you for these kind words. We’re looking forward to welcoming you back 😊

A little bit of real life from Summerfield this Friday 🤣

Kara landed back midweek after a few days away, straight into the family chaos Ben had been keeping on top of while she was gone.

The van blew up. Literally. Ben’s description on the phone “rolling down the hill, smoke coming off the van” 💨💨
The office computer needed replacing after ten years as it could no longer keep up with our newer systems, (although we have to admit, the replacement is very good!) and there have been gutter repairs to sort too, inbetween normal site maintenance. All alongside school runs, clubs, finding clean uniforms and fitting in some work to the website.

We love to share lots of lovely holiday photos here, but day to day we’re a normal family juggling work, children and whatever needs sorting next.

Anyone else getting to Friday wondering where on earth the week’s gone and how there’s still so much washing? 😂

Kara’s back in the office! ☕️

Ben’s been keeping everything ticking along while I’ve been out for a few days, with guests, boys, dogs and his own work, and he’s done a brilliant job 💛 A big thank you to his work colleagues and our friends who’ve helped with the dogs too. We’ve really appreciated the extra pairs of hands!

I’m back to share the juggling again, so it’s kettle on, emails open and a few lovely October breaks to tell you about! 🍂

We love October here. Autumn colours along the cinder track, Whitby sea air, muddy walks with the boys and dogs, then everyone back inside with the kettle on. Our three cottages have wood burners too, lovely for those darker evenings together.

We know it’s only September, but we’re going to say the Christmas word anyway 🎄

The darker nights are starting to creep in, and Christmas and New Year are filling up already. Albany is booked over Christmas Day, so we thought we’d give everyone a bit of warning rather than spring it on you in November!

We’re only opening Albany and Freedom Lodge through December and New Year this time. It means we can make Christmas lovely for the families staying with us, and still have time to enjoy it with our two little boys as well.

If you’re thinking about a few days away together, there’s something rather nice about a winter walk by the coast with the dogs, then coming back in for tea, games and a warm evening. Albany has the log burner, Freedom Lodge has those veranda views, and the dogs are welcome in both 🐾
Both properties will be beautifully decorated for the festive season for the whole of December.

And… you don’t have to pack quite so much of the house to come away. Both have a profiling bed, ceiling track, accessible wet room and other equipment to help make a stay feel a bit more like home. If you need something specific, just ask us and we can check the setup with you.

Well, that’s Friday nearly done! 😂

Today has mostly been a juggle of guests and Coastguard callouts, while Ben has been busy building at work.

We’ve also had meetings with Flowe Media this week about more updates to the website and making it easier for guests to find all the information they need. It was a pleasure seeing Julie Gibson again and catching up and chatting through the next steps for the website and media. There always seems to be something happening here, even when it’s not very exciting to photograph!

Tomorrow we’re off to cheer Hamish on at his bike event, so I don’t think it’s going to be a particularly quiet weekend either 🚲

For now, though, we’re putting our feet up, with a full house of guests again and all 5 properties full.
