Some great things to try…
The flavours of Whitby you have to experience for yourself. 😋
Whitby is full of great flavours, from famous baked goods to smoky seafood and local drinks. Here are some places you’ll want to check out.
🍋 A true Whitby classic
You can’t visit Whitby without trying a lemon bun from Botham's. These buns are lightly fruited, topped with zesty icing, and made from a recipe over 150 years old. Locals love them. Try putting the icing inside for a twist.
🐟 The famous kippers
Follow the smoky scent to Fortune's Smokehouse on Henrietta Street. Their oak-smoked kippers have been made the same way since 1872. They’re a true taste of Whitby’s heritage.
🍸 A coastal twist on gin
Whitby Gin uses botanicals from the Yorkshire coast and moors, including kelp gathered nearby. It tastes fresh, a bit floral, and is inspired by the local landscape.
🍟 Seaside staple, done right
Fish and chips are a must-try, and Trenchers is a local favourite. They serve classic cod and chips along with other seafood dishes.
🍺 A pint with a view
If you want Abbey views and local beer, visit Whitby Brewery. They offer everything from golden ales to darker, richer brews, making it a great place to relax after a walk.
🥧 Comfort food in cosy surroundings
Humble Pie 'n' Mash serves handmade pies every day, like steak and stout or veggie options, all with lots of gravy and a cosy spot by the fire.
🍻 Whitby Stout from The Green Dragon Ale House
A great tasting stout with hints of roasted coffee and molasses, raise a glass to everything Whitby.
🖤 Something a little different
Look out for Whitby’s famous goth ice cream. It’s jet black and usually appears during Goth Weekends.
🥧 Worth the short trip
Just outside town, Jackson's Butchers is known for some of the best pork pies around. They have crispy pastry, rich filling, and are a real hidden gem.
Whether you’re visiting for a day or staying longer, these flavours help make Whitby unforgettable.
