Robin Hood’s Bay crowned Yorkshire’s top seaside spot in recent poll. ⚓🌊❤️

This time, Whitby and Scarborough aren’t in the spotlight. Robin Hood’s Bay has been named Yorkshire’s best coastal town in a recent ranking by Holiday Cars.

This charming North Yorkshire village ranked above several popular seaside spots, and it’s clear why.

With its steep cobbled streets, cosy pubs, independent shops, sea views and postcard-worthy cottages, Robin Hood’s Bay is a brilliant place to explore this summer. Wander down to the beach, hunt for fossils and rock pools, enjoy a coastal walk, or simply grab an ice cream and soak up the views.

Located between Whitby and Scarborough, this historic fishing village offers everything you need for a memorable day by the sea: charm, character, history, and plenty of Yorkshire coastal magic.

This small village has a big seaside personality.

Lovely cafe too!

Just south of the iconic fishing village of Robin Hood’s Bay, Boggle Hole is one of the Yorkshire coast’s best-kept secrets. Tucked along the Cleveland Way within the North York Moors National Park, this sheltered bay is rich in folklore, history and natural beauty.

A roughly one-mile walk along the beach from Robin Hood’s Bay brings you to Boggle Hole, named after the mythical “boggles” — mischievous goblin-like creatures said to have lived in the coastal caves. Local legend even claims they could cure illness, with families once bringing sick children to the “hob holes” in hope of healing. The caves later became a favourite hiding place for smugglers landing contraband along the coast.

Today, Boggle Hole is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and part of the Yorkshire Dinosaur Coast, making it a dream for fossil hunters and curious explorers. With rock pools, clifftop views and a peaceful atmosphere, it’s a wonderfully unspoilt spot for a seaside escape.

Like brother like sister, getting on like hand and blister.

When you meet someone for just a few minutes, you only catch a snapshot of their life. But sometimes that snapshot tells you everything you need to know.

Today I met a farmer who’d travelled all the way from Boroughbridge – miles from the North York Moors, maybe not even the same county – to help fight the fire on our moorland.

He hadn’t come alone. He was here with his boss, Phil, a man he clearly admired. In fact, he couldn’t stop praising Phil – his leadership, his decency, the way he looks out for his men.

The kind of boss, you could tell, who earns respect rather than demands it. Together, they’d left their own land, their own work, to come here. And why? Because, in his words:

“If there was a fire near my home, I know the farmers from here would come and help me.”

That’s what the farming community is. Not just neighbours, not just workers in the same industry – but a family, a lifeline, the backbone of our countryside. No questions asked, no time wasted, just action.

He didn’t even know when he’d be going home. Three or four days, he reckoned. As long as it took.

He spoke about the loneliness of farming – the long hours, the days out in the middle of nowhere. It can be tough. But he said one thing that stood out: that even when you feel alone in the fields, you’re never truly alone. Because the farming community will always be there. Always.

And today we saw that in action. Farmers dropping everything to protect the land, the wildlife, and the people who live here. No fanfare, no headlines – just grit, courage, and decency.

So let’s be absolutely clear: without farmers, our countryside doesn’t function. Without farmers, we don’t eat. Without farmers, we don’t have communities like ours at all. They are the first to step forward in a crisis, and often the last to be thanked.
Well, here’s the thanks.

From all of us.

To every farmer who showed up, and to the entire farming community – local and beyond – we salute you. Heroes in wellies.

All roads around the Langdale Moor wildfire will reopen from 6:30pm (Monday 1 September). This includes the A171 between Whitby and Scarborough and the B1416, however a 30mph speed limit is in place on sections of both roads to keep everyone safe.

Please stick to this speed limit as the fire is still ongoing and emergency services are still working in the area. There may be smoke reducing visibility, mud on the road from the ongoing work and our sweepers may be on the road cleaning this up.

Laybys will be closed, please keep moving and do not stop to look at the fire.

Police will be patrolling the area.

Thank you for your patience.
