Coffee after a walk, cocktails before dinner…

Sunny walks around Goathland, lunch out in the North York Moors, cocktails in the evening, and coffee in the Coach House once the walking boots are off.

The new menu’s made for this sort of weather too. British half roast chicken, lighter summer dishes like our Caesar Salad and Watermelon & Buffalo Mozzarella Salad, and plenty you’ll want to sit over for a bit longer.

And if you’re just passing through after a walk, the Coach House Coffee Shop will be open through the early afternoon for coffee, cake, and somewhere to slow down for a bit.

We’re fully booked for Saturday and Sunday night now, but there’s still some availability left on Bank Holiday Monday if you fancy stretching the weekend out a little longer.

Goathland always feels a bit different when the sun comes out.

We were recently sent this photograph of the Mallyan Spout Hotel taken by John Brown back in 1965 and, honestly, apart from the cars and the ivy on the walls, it still looks much the same today.

Along with the photograph came this lovely message from John's son:

“He [John] was from North Yorks as well as my mum. They loved the area with a passion and stayed at the Mallyan Spout. Looking at it, the blue car on the right might actually be theirs!”

And that’s exactly what people love about the North York Moors, the passion people have for the place.

The slower pace, the memories, and the feeling that stepping into Goathland is a bit like stepping back in time for a while.

Some people first came here because they loved the moors. Others because of Heartbeat, or more recently Harry Potter and Goathland Station becoming Hogsmeade.

But what we love most is seeing people come back year after year, then eventually bringing the next generation with them because the village means something to them too.

That’s a pretty special part of working at the Mallyan.

We’d love to know, what’s your earliest memory of Goathland or the Mallyan?

And if anyone’s got any old photographs tucked away somewhere, we’d absolutely love to see them.

New dishes, local produce, and summer evenings in Goathland.

Seasonal dishes in the Valley View Restaurant, proper pub favourites in the Spout Bar, and the sort of food that fits perfectly after a day out in the North York Moors.

All our meat and fish is sourced from local suppliers as part of our promise to support local produce and local businesses wherever we can.

Whether it’s a relaxed lunch in Goathland, dinner overlooking the moors, or a drink that turns into staying a little longer than planned, there’s plenty worth settling in for this summer.

The new menus are well worth a look if you’re planning a visit.

Fresh air all day, cocktails in the evening.

Something good to drink, dinner in the Valley View Restaurant or Spout Bar, and nowhere else you need to be once the evening settles in around Goathland.

That’s the best part about staying at Mallyan Spout Hotel. You can slow the pace right down and enjoy it properly.

You could get used to days ending like that.

Afternoon tea tastes even better after a walk out on the moors.

At The Mallyan Spout Hotel in Goathland, you’ve got fresh sandwiches, homemade treats, and pots of tea waiting after a morning exploring the North York Moors.

Whitby’s just down the road, the steam trains roll through the village most days, and somehow time seems to stand still in Goathland.

The sort of place where afternoon tea turns into sitting a little longer than you planned ☕😍

Goathland’s one of those places where you stop checking the time… unless it’s for the steam trains.

Start your day waking up at Mallyan Spout Hotel, walk down through the woods to the waterfall, then end up stood on the platform watching the NYMR steam engines head off through the North York Moors towards Whitby.

Most people know the station as Hogsmeade from the first Harry Potter film, but there’s plenty more going on here, including North Yorkshire Moors Railway's Thomas & Friends 'Day Out With Thomas' this May.

It's quite nice knowing you can leave the car where it is and jump on the train into Whitby or Pickering instead.

A Sunday lunch after a walk out on the moors just makes sense.

Especially when there’s a roast waiting at Mallyan Spout Hotel in Goathland.

Good food, a slower pace, and views out across the North York Moors while you settle in for the afternoon.

And if you fancy stretching the day out a bit longer, Whitby’s just down the road.

Not a bad way to spend a Sunday, really.

If you’re thinking of joining us this weekend, worth getting a table sorted.
