We always shop at R A Williamson and can’t recommend them enough. Their produce is consistently fresh and top quality, and it feels great knowing we’re supporting a local business that helps keep our town thriving.

Some shopfronts simply belong to a town, and R.A. Willison & Son on Wellington Road is certainly one of them. ❤️

Located at No. 1 Wellington Road, just a short walk from Whitby’s train and bus station, this traditional greengrocer is instantly recognisable thanks to the colourful displays of fresh fruit, vegetables, plants and flowers that spill out onto the pavement.

The shop has kept its traditional look for many years, adding plenty of character to the corner of Wellington Road and Baxtergate and helping preserve a little piece of old-fashioned Whitby.

Inside, the focus remains firmly on quality produce and friendly service. Alongside fresh fruit and vegetables, shoppers will often find cut flowers, indoor and outdoor plants and seasonal favourites throughout the year.

It’s the sort of independent shop that has become part of the fabric of the town — familiar to generations of locals and regularly discovered by visitors passing through the centre of Whitby.

Congratulations to Jackson’s of Ruswarp 👏🏻🥧😋

Ruswarp Butchers celebrates national success with their pork pies. 🏆🥧

Jacksons of Ruswarp is celebrating a major win after earning one of the top awards at the 2026 Dalziel Battle of the Butchers competition.

This popular local butcher earned a three-star gold award for its traditional flat pork pie and also took home the prestigious Golden Cleaver Award. The judges were also impressed by their pork and apple pies, which received a top score.

Jacksons made it to the final after impressing judges in an earlier round in Coventry, then baked fresh pies for the final in Harrogate.

The team thanked Dalziel Ltd for hosting the event, which celebrated 100 years in the industry, and gave a special thanks to everyone at Jacksons for their hard work in making the pies so popular.
