Not an easy post to write this one.
On Wednesday, we unfortunately had a fire down at our 120-year-old Crumbleclive Cabin.
We think it started from the barbecue and, due to the fact that everything is tinder-box dry, it became pretty serious, pretty quickly.
A camper fortunately raised the alarm and the hero that is my dad was first on the scene to try and get it under control. Without them, we would have no doubt lost the complete cabin.
Two fire engines came, but by that time we had managed to put out the worst of it and stop the spread.
We have lost the whole of one end of the cabin, the hot tub and all of the decking. The entire inside is smoke damaged too.
Our fantastic joiner friend has dropped everything and is beginning work next week, and we have set an ambitious target of being back up and running in a month.
We can only apologise to those who have booked and whose holidays have been disrupted. We must thank Ness and Alistair for putting up our guests at the very last minute, and Will and Katy for helping to give our other cancelled guests an alternative place to stay.
I’m under no illusions that this will be an easy job — after all, I’ve already rebuilt it once! I’m also aware it will be expensive due to its age and the bespoke nature of the boarding we will need, but Crumbleclive means a hell of a lot to us and it’s the least it deserves.
So she will rise again from the ashes, bigger and better than before!
Thanks,
Aidan and Ella
