Is it even possible to make Whitby any more frosty in the middle of January? ❄️

Apparently the answer is yes, and we are quite literally getting an ice festival to prove it. The newly announced Fire and Ice Festival is set to take over Baxtergate and the Harbourside in 2027. We are honestly wondering if they even need to carve the ice, or if they can just leave a bucket of water out overnight near the bandstand to do the job for them! 🪣

Jokes about our famous coastal breeze aside, this brings a huge investment to our local high street. Seeing fire spinners illuminating the dark winter afternoons sounds incredibly spectacular. We usually spend January bundled up indoors, but this might just tempt us out of our hibernation. 🧣

As a team that champions local business growth, we know how tough the winter closures can be. Giving visitors a reason to brave the chill could be brilliant for our independent shops and cafes. We just need to make sure everyone brings at least three layers of thermals! ☕
