Going, going, gone! No need to jet off to Ibiza or The Canaries. We walked just 5 minutes to our seafront tonight to watch the sun go down from a bench in North Yorkshire, without coats too!! Spectacular!

1,369 people dressed as vampires all gathered last night at the Abbey! Smashed the world record previously held by the USA. Well done Whitby! A rare, surreal sight.
A quick pit stop at the micro Brewery before a leisurely stroll back through a very windy town, Dracula spotting en route!

A total of 1,369 people attended Whitby Abbey in North Yorkshire dressed as vampires, organisers say.

Never a dull moment in Whitby! This week on Thursday 26 May at the Abbey, there is to be an attempt at the world record for the largest gathering of people dressed as vampires in any one place! This is to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Bram Stoker's classic novel Dracula, inspired by the Abbey.

We now have only 1 room left (king size & single bed- see photos) for either Wednesday & Thursday or Thursday and Friday nights (2 night minimum stay). We are very much looking forward to seeing this "Spooktacular" vision and hope they make it into the Guinness Book of Records!

So we come to the end of another successful, fun Goth weekend! We managed to slip out yesterday for a cheeky "Goth" cocktail in a quieter cafe/bar on Skinner Street, Jet Black Jewel. One cocktail was actually named Jet Black and was truly delicious. We also sampled an extremely tasty, well adorned Bloody Mary.
I was kindly gifted a couple of hanging trinkets for my tree by our lovely ladies who stay with us twice a year and run a stall at the leisure centre. They make and sell mainly hats and fascinators but have many other amazing wares. Such passion and detail in every item. I love mine, thank you so much!

Crescent Lodge is a traditional guest house / bed & breakfast on in the beautiful seaside town of Whitby, North Yorkshire. The property is a typical Victorian house, built in the late 1800’s with many original features including fabulously high ceilings.

Another beautifully sunny, crisp spring day! We ventured out for a short walk to Saltwick Bay beach, about 20 minutes beyond the Abbey along the Cleveland Way. It's an arduous decent and only possible if the tide is out but you can find all sorts of fossils and look out dinosaur footprints. We didn't find any fossils unfortunately but it is an interesting beach, sandy in places, with plenty of rock climbing opportunity too! Of course, when you're done, brace yourself for the climb back up. The tide had still not turned at that point and we could clearly see the shipwreck of Admiral Von Tromp. A casual stroll back through the town with a pit stop at Sanders Yard for a yummy snack. Regrettably we only spied their delicious desert fridge on the way out - Chocolate Pecan Pie!! We shall return soon to taste that for certain.

During the multiple lockdowns of the last two years, we busied ourselves with plenty of renovating and redecorating projects.

A couple of our bathrooms were completely refurbished to a very high standard courtesy of Stringers of Whitby and we are sure you will agree, they did an amazing job! Several of our guest bedrooms and some communal areas were refreshed with a lick of paint, new carpets, new curtains and lots of TLC.

This week, we had some professional photos taken and have now updated our website and all our booking sites with the new pictures. Huge thanks to .photography1, it was a pleasure to meet you. Here are just a few of our favourite snaps.

One of the prettiest villages in Yorkshire!

A beautifully quaint place to spend a couple of hours (despite alternating between bright sunshine and snow flurries today), Thornton-le-Dale.

Just east of Pickering, it is only 20 minutes from Whitby by car. Situated on a flowing beck, boasting charming stone and thatched chocolate box cottages, it is a must see if you have time whilst staying with us.

There is a small pond walk which has some interesting carvings and a bug hotel!

Why not finish your visit with a tasty cream tea in a cosy tea room. Perfect!

Watching wintry, wet, windy Whitby today we are not at all disheartened. We are looking forward to our winter festival which will include a full size, undercover ice rink being erected and many Christmas/Food stalls. We have some availability weekdays November & December.
