We enjoyed a couple of sunny days camping up at the Showgrounds before the rain came this morning.

Favourite places from this stay have been Abbey Wharf for fish & chips, The Fat Badger Whitby for a pint after doing the shops, and Whitby Brewery for live music and chatting with other campers.

And while we’ve been camping around Yorkshire over the school holidays, our guests are having a great time in Wren Cottage Briggswath giving us a fab reviews 💕 ⭐️

Hopefully our next guests will enjoy some good weather, allowing them to explore Whitby and the amazing coast and countryside

We’re enjoying a spot of camping up at Beacon Farm Ice Cream while we host guests over the summer.

It’s lovely to be able to share Wren Cottage Briggswath and enjoy our local campsites and beauty spots, and go on some fantastic walks.

And for the kids to have their daily dose of Beacon Farm icecream. Their favourite flavours? Salted caramel and cookies ‘n cream… and biscotti and raspberry ripple!

I’ll post a pic of the ice creams next time I can grab the kids before they’ve eaten them! 🍦🌞🌊

Falling Foss Tea Garden is now open every weekend throughout July and August. 🌿

Good news for summer walkers, waterfall chasers and cake lovers: Falling Foss Tea Garden will be open every weekend throughout July and August.

Tucked away in the grounds of Midge Hall, beside the beautiful Falling Foss Waterfall, this rustic outdoor tea garden is one of the North York Moors’ loveliest hidden gems. Think picnic tables, wellies and woodland views rather than fine china and tablecloths.

Visitors can enjoy freshly baked scones with jam and cream, homemade cakes, barista coffee, speciality teas and locally made dairy ice cream, all served in the heart of an ancient forest.

It’s also the perfect stop-off after exploring nearby walking routes. One of our favourites is the Hermitage and Falling Foss circular walk, a short but magical route through Littlebeck Woods featuring a hidden hermit’s cave, peaceful woodland paths, the waterfall and, of course, a well-earned tea garden treat at the end.

Just a 15-minute drive from Whitby, it’s a lovely little summer adventure for anyone looking to slow down, breathe in the forest air and let nature do the rest.

The poppies have bloomed at Wren Cottage, the ducks are chilling in the sun in the river at the bottom of the garden, and the steam train is chugging past. What a fantastic place to be, especially in this beautiful warm weather!

“Just back from a great weekend in Wren Cottage. Excellent location, peaceful, but having good transport links, including Whitby only a short bus or train ride away.

The nearby garden centre is worth a visit for lunch or just a snack on the riverbank.

The property is excellent being thoughtfully decorated and maintained to a high standard.

The outside space provides a perfect location for outside dining, or sitting near the river listening to the local songbirds or watching the odd fish jumping after the flies. I wouldn't hesitate to use again.”

We’re on the Esk Valley Railway and love seeing the the steam trains go past the cottage at Sleights 🚂

Getting to the North York Moors & Whitby by rail. 🚆🌿

Planning a trip to Whitby or the North York Moors? Many visitors arrive by car, coach, or bus, but travelling by rail is a relaxed and scenic alternative.

From York, you can take a regular train to Scarborough, then continue across the Moors to Whitby by bus. This journey takes about 1 hour and 5 minutes, with services running every 35 minutes. Taxis are also available from Scarborough station at the taxi rank. The journey to Whitby takes about 35 minutes by taxi and costs around £45-£50, but please ask ahead as prices may change.

Another beautiful option is the Esk Valley Railway, running from Middlesbrough to Whitby through the heart of the North York Moors National Park. Serving 17 stations along the way, it links rural villages with Middlesbrough and the historic seaside town of Whitby.

It’s a stress-free, more environmentally friendly way to travel and a lovely way to enjoy the landscapes, villages, and views before you arrive.
