“Added pics before promenade.”

I took this photo last night and there was hardly a person in sight. It always makes me wonder… where does everyone go? Even with the caravan site full of holidaymakers, the beach is often so peaceful that it feels like you have it all to yourself.

It’s hard to imagine that this quiet stretch of coastline looked very different before the concrete promenade was built in 1959. That only became possible after shingle extraction finally stopped in 1956, helping to protect the cliffs and preserve the beach we enjoy today.

Sixty-seven years on, it’s still one of my favourite places to walk—and moments like this remind me just how special St Bees really is.🐚💗🌊
