The remains of Saltom Pit, England’s first undersea mine dating back to 1729 and at its peak reaching 2km out under the sea. What you see today is the winding house which was originally powered by horses walking around a wheel.
You can see it from the cliffs between Victroneen and Haig Pit

Join us for an incredible celebration as the Whitehaven Weekender Arena brings a vibrant line-up of live music to the harbourside, headlined by the iconic Vengaboys.

Part of a brand-new, two-day festival celebrating music, creativity and community, Whitehaven Weekender is delivered in partnership by Rosehill Theatre, Northern Equality and Diversity and Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners, with support from Sellafield Ltd, iSH, Copeland Community Fund, and Mott MacDonald.

To enjoy this afternoon and party alongside us, you'll need to book a ticket to access the arena. Tickets are free with a £3.50 booking fee and are ONLY needed for the main arena on Sunday 30th August, 12:00-19:00.

All other events across Whitehaven Weekender are FREE and open to everyone - no ticket required!
