If your visiting Thurso make sure and park up by the river and look out for the seals and otters, I took this little video clip where you can see an otter fishing and eating its catch on a rock, then behind it there is a seal perched on a rock, it’s amazing watching the otters they are such fantastic fishers! Oh and we love going to Cardosi’s for breakfast!

We welcome dogs at Duart at the Sea! We’ve had many gorgeous dogs visit and enjoy the amazing walks from our base and local area, you can even take them on the local ferries to Orkney for an extra special day out! From coastal paths, endless beaches, woodland walks and dog friendly cafes/restuarants and pubs, lots to explore and enjoy. We welcome up to two dogs, ask you to keep them on leads around our grounds - this is essential as we have sheep in our field for part of the year, a gorgeous much loved cat and free range very friendly hens! Our grounds are large so not fully enclosed, this keeps everyone safe. Photos include lots of dogs enjoying our many environments from coastal paths, running on the beaches, walks through the dunes, sleeping after a busy day and looking out to sea.

Meet ‘Wee Jimmy’ our latest little addition to the family, two photos of him with his mum who is called ‘Feisty’ 🤣 wee Jimmy is named after his dad who you will see going about he’s called Big Jim and is so sweet and canny, never does anything in a hurry and loves strutting about. Hope Wee Jim takes after his dad and has the same temperament.

Our veg patch has been benefiting from this gorgeous sun recently, our purple sprouting broccoli is thriving! Also first time growing Romanesco broccoli too, it seems to like our climate! And there is nothing like fresh new tatties (potatoes), gorgeous. Our purple cabbage will be great for the autumn and winter months. Photo descriptions on each picture.

Another beautiful wild flower found along our coastline the Northern Marsh Orchid is such a stunning little orchid for us all to enjoy, bright purple in colour, one flower stem has lots of these tiny little Orchid flowers on it, with thick broad green leaves growing up from the base, found in grassland and so tiny, take care not to stand on these precious little wild flowers! (Photo description- Five photos attached showing close up of plants and flower heads)

A ten minute little walk from Duart at The Sea along the John O’Groats Trail and I photographed all these gorgeous little wild flowers, surviving right on the coast in this remote and stunning environment. (Photo descriptions, some photos of individual flower heads bright yellow, white, pink and lovely groups of flowers down the steep banks to waters edge, one photo showed one of the wooden crossing boards over a high gully.)
