About The Hayloft
The Hayloft has a rustic feel perfectly suiting its location in the rural Devonshire village of Widecombe-in-the-Moor. The one-bedroom Dartmoor holiday cottage is beautifully furnished for couples and individuals who want a welcoming place to return after a day walking, climbing, cycling and mountain biking through the national park or exploring the beautiful beaches of the South Devon coastline. The property is well-equipped for self-catering, but why not give yourself a night off and stroll to one of the village's two pubs - The Rugglestone Inn and The Old Inn, for a tasty pub meal or walk to the Cafe on the Green for brunch.
Widecombe-in-the-Moor is a friendly place with an impressive church tower, given the village's small size. There's a busy monthly farmers market in National Trust Church House on the fourth Saturday of the month and a craft market every Wednesday. If you're there in mid-September, you'll be lucky enough to visit the traditional country fair - a highlight of the community calendar. Grab your walking stick or hiking poles and explore Hambledown via Church Way and country lanes over Venton Bridge to Chittleford and back through Lower Dunstone. There is a wealth of artefacts from years past strewn around the countryside, including the Dun Stone, where farmers paid taxes and a Saxon well.
Places to go in Dartmoor include Dartmoor Zoo, the South Devon Railway, War Horse Valley Farm, Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre, and The Museum of Dartmoor Life. Once you've hiked, biked, llama-trekked and climbed your way around Dartmoor, head for the coast. The English Riviera beaches of Torquay and Paignton are a 40-minute drive from The Hayloft, with a fantastic array of seaside attractions as well as long sandy beaches. Teignmouth is closer, around half an hour away, with a lido, Victorian pier, and lots of places to eat. The South West Coast Path is spectacular in all seasons with stunning views over the English Channel.
The Hayloft is all stone and wood and country charm, with lots of wood and warm colours that make it welcoming in all seasons.
