Do you remember the days when the landscape of the Northern Fells looked green? Well here is a reminder.

Yes we love the hot sunny weather but the Lake District and especially the Northern Fells, look best when it’s like these pics - taken in 2025. Stunning isn’t it?

We’re pretty much booked up until October now, but the late and early season months are often the best times of the year for a relaxing break away from it all - staying in Caldbeck at Ellwood House of course.

High Pike - the nearest fabulous fell walk from Caldbeck. 2159 feet high and the most wonderful panoramic views of the Lake District, Eden Valley and the Scottish Borders - simply outstanding!

It's an easy climb for most people and the efforts are well worth it.

You can walk it from the door of Ellwood House or park your car a bit closer or for a different route.

Take in Carrock Fell too if you have the time - perfect.

With walks like this on the doorstep, why go to the honey trap locations of the Lakes, rammed with people, when you can walk the Northern Fells and not see a soul - which is often the case.

Smart walkers always end the walk at either the The Oddfellows Arms Caldbeck or the Old Crown in Hesket Newmarket for a well deserved pint.

The Oddie’s is our local pub in Caldbeck. It’s a cracking place, just a short walk down into the village from Ellwood House.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team help keep walkers safe on the fells.

We can't thank them enough for being there in an emergency.

Along with the other mountain rescue teams in the Lake District, they help fell walkers (and others), in distress when out exploring the Lake District Fells.

The are completely voluntary organisations and only exist due to donations from the general public. They need your support! You never know when you might need their services.

Enjoy the Lakeland fells responsibly and stay safe. Always check the weather forecast before setting off and go properly equipped. Enough said. 😁

High Pike - a fabulous viewpoint from above Caldbeck. A great hike that can be done from the door of Ellwood House. It’s not hard and definitely worth the effort.

You can see to Scotland, over the Eden Valley to the North Pennines and into the Northern Fells of Lakeland. Brilliant.
