Keswick Mountain Rescue Team help keep walkers safe on the fells.

We can't thank them enough for being there in an emergency.

Along with the other mountain rescue teams in the Lake District, they help fell walkers (and others), in distress when out exploring the Lake District Fells.

The are completely voluntary organisations and only exist due to donations from the general public. They need your support! You never know when you might need their services.

High Pike - a fabulous viewpoint from above Caldbeck. A great hike that can be done from the door of Ellwood House. It’s not hard and definitely worth the effort.

You can see to Scotland, over the Eden Valley to the North Pennines and into the Northern Fells of Lakeland. Brilliant.

The North Lakes can experience some fabulous sunsets. We've probably posted before with some great sunset pics. Here's a couple more.

Not only is the scenery stunning in this area of Cumbria, you can experience some unbelievable sunsets. These two were taken from near Caldbeck Common. Just up the road from Ellwood House. Stunning aren't they?

Explore the Howk direct from the door of Ellwood House.

Up from the village pond in Caldbeck, there is a lovely short walk which follows the river up the Howk, a limestone gorge with beautiful waterfalls and the picturesque old Bobbin Mill. The mill once had the largest waterwheel in the country, at 3 feet wide, and a 42 feet diameter.

It continues along a gentle footpath (after a very short sections of steep steps) up to Whelpo Bridge. The bridge dates from the 18th Century and is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.

Then return along the quiet road back into Caldbeck or retrace your steps along the footpath from when you came.

It's a gorgeous short walk - a hidden gem even - and can be done straight from Ellwood House, without need for your car. It's one of the many lovely walks in and around Caldbeck.

Jennings Brewery has reopened in Cockermouth under new local owners. Jennings is the taste of Cumbria. They produce some fantastic real ales and have a fabulous brewery tap in Cockermouth. It’s well worth a visit as it’s a lovely environment to enjoy a pint or two with friends or family.

And we all know beer tastes best at the brewery. They also offer “street food” on different evenings of the week.

Sneck Lifter is a particular favourite. Just a delightful beer and we’re so glad that JENNINGS IS BACK.

Our local pub in Caldbeck usually has Jennings on tap too - just a short walk from Ellwood House.
