Dodged the showers this morning on the Wythop Forest Circular and enjoyed the glimpses of Skiddaw across Bassenthwaite Lake. It's a great little walk that takes about an hour to get round with free parking at Beck Wythop just off the A66, and a short 20 minute drive from Swift Barn.

The East window at Carlisle Cathedral is officially the 'Nation's Favourite Stained Glass Window ' so we took a tour; firstly up a winding stone staircase to the clerestory (the high above the nave) for a spectacular view of the window and it's astonishing Gothic tracery , the beautiful ceiling designed by Owen Jones, and the wonderful architectural features of the building itself. Visit Carlisle .... only 45 minutes from Swift Barn!

It's beginning to feel like Spring is truly on the way; daffodils and Spring flowers in the garden and the ducks are laying again. Hoorah!

Want to find out how Jennings brew their famous beers and have a good pint while you’re there? Simply pop into Cockermouth and visit their brewery and explore the rest of this lovely ‘Gem Town’ - a short drive away from Swift Barn.
