The deer were out again at 5:47am this morning, just past the treeline near the pitches. 🌿

June has properly arrived in the Dorset countryside, and the woodland is at its most alive right now. Everything is green in that particular way it only gets for a few weeks a year.

Here's what a summer stay with us actually feels like: long evenings that stretch past nine, warm enough for a firepit, cool enough under the trees to actually sleep. The heated pool is up and running. The early mornings belong to the deer and whoever's brave enough to put the kettle on first.

If you're arriving over the next few weeks, a few small things worth knowing. Pack lighter layers than you'd think for evenings. Bring proper shoes for the woodland walks. And give yourself a slow first morning, Rivendell Park rewards people who don't rush it.

You're both sleeping outside tonight. One of you is sinking into a king-size bed with proper bedding and a private veranda. The other is zipping into a sleeping bag on a groundsheet, listening to an owl somewhere in the Oaks.

Both are wonderful. They're just very different weekends.

Glamping at Rivendell is the woodland with the edges softened. Your bell tent or safari tent is already pitched, the bed is made, there's electricity, a little kitchenette, and a firepit waiting by the door. You arrive, pour a drink, and watch the light fade through the trees. 🌲

Camping is the raw version. You bring your kit, choose your pitch, and set the whole thing up yourself. Mornings start with a kettle on the stove and dew on the grass. The experience is entirely on your terms, and that's the whole point.

Glamping suits families and couples who want the dawn chorus without sacrificing a good night's sleep. Camping is for the ones who want the wind on the canvas and the freedom to pack light or pack everything.

On June 21st, the light lingers until nearly 10pm.

That's the kind of evening that changes how a day feels. No rushing inside at dusk. No scramble to pack up before the dark settles in. Just the slow drift from golden hour into firelight, with the woodland glowing around you. 🌙

Solstice nights in the woods hit differently. The dawn chorus starts before 4am. Swifts cut across the sky long after dinner. A firepit crackles while the trees turn to silhouettes overhead, and somewhere a tawny owl calls out the start of the short, soft night.

These are the longest evenings of the year. They come once, and then the light starts pulling back again.
