We have 5 colourful, cosy and clean bedrooms available that can cater for groups, couples and families, you can even hire the whole hostel if you want. Some of our rooms have double beds and all have access to bathrooms with toilets and separate toilet facilities, no crossed legs in the corridor here! We are a hidden gem in the very heart of Windermere village, Lakes Hostel started life as a coach
ing stable before becoming a bakery and finally a hostel in the 1970s. We bought it in 2020 (what a year to buy a bunkhouse!) and began renovating and upgrading every inch; from everything, you’ll see and touch like the beds, bedrooms, kitchen and bathrooms and lots of stuff you can’t like the sustainable sheep’s wool insulation, electrics and plumbing! It’s been great to breathe new life into this much-loved hostel and because it’s not just backpackers who love it, we changed the name from Lake District Backpackers to Lakes Hostel too. We are a self-catering hostel and guests are welcome to use the well-equipped modern kitchen, relax and make friends in our quirky lounge and kick off their muddy boots in the boot room and dry any soggy jackets in our drying area. It really is your base for the Lakes, we are IN the village, where there are plenty of options to grab some local produce for you to cook in the kitchen and countless cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars, shops, boutiques, supermarkets, post office within a few moments’ walk. Windermere is even home to the smallest pub in the Lake District and a haven for craft ale drinkers.
