Wild swim, kayak or paddleboard – how do you like to get out on the water? 🛶🏊

There's a bit of inspiration for water lovers in Kendal tonight, with the Paddling Film Festival at Brewery Arts, featuring paddling adventures from around the world.

I'm quite happy taking a dip in Windermere. Paddleboarding is another matter – I've not entirely mastered the art of that yet! 😂

Derek is much more at home in his kayak and loves taking it out on Windermere.

One of the things I love about living here is just how many different ways there are to enjoy the lake – although I'm quite happy sticking to the less adventurous end of the scale. 😊

What does your perfect autumn day in the Lakes look like? 🍂🥾

Ours started with lunch at The Apple Pie Bakery & Café in Ambleside – always a favourite – before heading over to White Moss for a walk to Rydal Caves.
The walk takes in some stunning views across Rydal Water and the Lakeland fells, and the caves themselves make it feel like a bit of an adventure too.

Back at White Moss, we finished the afternoon with ice cream and coffee from the little coffee hut near the car park. Because apparently lunch wasn’t enough... 😂☕🍦

A good lunch, a lovely walk, fantastic views and coffee and ice cream to finish.

Pretty much my idea of a perfect day in the Lakes! 😊

This is the view from the top of our garden at Windermere Stays.
Blue skies, sunshine and Lake Windermere looking rather lovely today.
I often walk up here when I fancy a bit of fresh air without actually going anywhere – and I don’t think I’ll ever get bored of this view. 😊

Coming to the Lakes in October? 🍂

A few things worth having on your radar...

The Lakes International Comic Art Festival is in Kendal from 2–4 October, with talks, live drawing, workshops, exhibitions and plenty happening around the town.

But if, like me, you're more likely to be out and about then Tarn Hows is lovely at this time of year. The trees around the water make it a particularly nice autumn walk, and the main circular route is only around two miles, so it's an easy one to fit into the day. 🥾

And later in the month there's the Paddling Film Festival in Kendal on 14 October – I'll share a little more about that nearer the time. 🛶

Love exploring the Lakes, but prefer somewhere peaceful to come back to? 🍂

Got plans for this weekend in the Lakes? 🍂

There's quite a bit going on around Ambleside this weekend, including AmbleFest, with craft b**r, live music and street food. 🍺🎶

I've never actually been to AmbleFest, but it sounds like a good excuse for a trip into Ambleside!

And of course, you don't need an event to enjoy September in the Lakes. I love this time of year for getting outside – cooler walking weather, the first hints of autumn and still enough daylight to make the most of the day.

Has anyone been to AmbleFest before – is it worth a visit?

Can I pick your brains? ☕

I currently provide a cafetière and fresh ground coffee in all my properties, which I think is a lovely way to start a holiday morning.

But... at home I have a Nespresso machine and I have to admit, I love it! 😄

So now I'm wondering if I'm giving guests what they actually want.

If you were staying with me, would you rather have:

☕ A cafetière with fresh ground coffee

or

☕ A Nespresso pod machine?

Are you a "proper coffee" person who enjoys the whole ritual, or do you think life's too short and just want a great coffee at the touch of a button? ☕😄
