The longest day of the year is here. ☀️

If you've ever stayed with us in June, you'll know how lovely the evenings can be. The sun hangs around a bit longer, the hills stay golden late into the day, and there's no rush to head inside.

It's one of our favourite things about this time of year. Just a bit more daylight to enjoy the views, sit outside with a brew, and soak up the peace and quiet.

Happy Summer Solstice from all of us at High Borrans. 🌿

Our compact and cosy shepherd’s hut has been expertly hand-built and traditionally styled. Set in its own private cherry orchard, it’s a cosy, quirky place to stay. It's ideal for those looking for a different experience without having to compromise on comfort. The hut has built in underfloor heating, a fully equipped kitchen, shower room and even an electric stove, it’s small but perfectly formed and a joy to stay in. 🐏

If visiting historic properties are on your list of things to do, the Lake District has plenty, one favourite of ours is the must-see Townend at Troutbeck, built in 1626 for George Browne, a wealthy yeoman farmer and as such, a prime example of a statesman’s dwelling of the 17th Century, complete with much of its original oak furniture.

Outside there is a beautiful cottage style garden. Townend is now looked after by the National Trust, and is open in the afternoons.🌼

Stay in one of our Lodges or the Shepherd Hut and explore the Lakes, walk the fells or head to nearby towns.

It’s the simple, easy break you need.

We couldn’t manage 1,200 sheep without Daphne and Blex, and they love keeping our Swaledale Ewes and their lambs on the move. We love our dogs, that’s why we created our dog friendly couples only lodges, so your four legged friends can enjoy the Lake District too.🐕

High Borrans Farm is secluded, away from it all, but we are just a 10 minute drive away from Lake Windermere, Bowness & further on, Ambleside.

Lake Windermere is the largest lake in England and there are lots of water based activities from various points on its eastern shore at Bowness, Low Wood, Brockhole and Waterhead at Ambleside. Steamers and pleasure boats ply the length of the lake, offering spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.⛵

For the couples who wouldn't dream of leaving their dog behind. 🐾

Three of our lodges here at High Borrans are dog-friendly and we think they might be three of the best places in the Lake District to bring your four-legged one.

Here's why.
You're on a 1,000 acre working hill farm. Bridle paths and fell tracks start right from the lodge park. Footpaths lead towards Kentmere and Troutbeck directly from the farm, so no car needed to get your dog's legs going in the morning.

Oh and you might spot Binky the rescue or Sydney the terrier on your travels round the farm. They live here too. 🐶
