Luxury Lodges and Shepherds Hut for couples, located on a working hill farm near Windermere.

High Borrans Lodges are located on a traditional working hill farm close to Windermere, in the Lake District. The farm and lodge site are run by Cathy and Jonathan Hodgson and their family. The lodge park is small, private and enclosed and is ideal for quiet, relaxing, rural breaks. Although we are a quiet peaceful lodge park, we are within a 10 minute drive of Windermere.

For keen walkers or beginners, High Borrans Farm is well connected to the network of foot- and bridlepaths which criss-cross the Lake District fells and valleys. 👣

The well-known Garburn Pass is a track, with footpaths leading to the high fells of Ill Bell and Froswick, connecting to High Street, the famous Roman Road which runs along the fell tops from Windermere to Penrith. For nature lovers there’s abundant wildlife in this peaceful corner of Lakeland. 🌿

High Borrans is a 1000 acre working hill farm, with a flock of over 1,200 Swaledale ewes and about 25 cows. Our sheep and cows are raised on heather-clad fell tops, former grouse shooting land, 1,300ft above sea level. The farm and the Lake District is the most wonderful environment for nature lovers.

Stay in one of our Lodges or the Shepherd Hut and explore the Lakes, walk the fells or head to nearby towns.

For the couples who wouldn't dream of leaving their dog behind. 🐾

Three of our lodges here at High Borrans are dog-friendly and we think they might be three of the best places in the Lake District to bring your four-legged one.

Here's why.
You're on a 1,000 acre working hill farm. Bridle paths and fell tracks start right from the lodge park. Footpaths lead towards Kentmere and Troutbeck directly from the farm, so no car needed to get your dog's legs going in the morning.

Oh and you might spot Binky the rescue or Sydney the terrier on your travels round the farm. They live here too. 🐶

There's no shortage of places to stay in the Lake District. So why do people keep coming back to High Borrans? 🌿

We think it's this.
We're not in the middle of Bowness. We're not next to a busy road or sandwiched between other holiday parks. We're a mile off the A591, up a long farm track, on a 1,000 acre working hill farm that's been here for generations.

It's couples only, and always has been! No noise from neighbouring lodges. Just you, your person, the sound of the farm and some of the best views in Cumbria.😍

Windermere is 10 minutes down the road when you want it. Ambleside is 20. Keswick is an hour.
We have seven lodges and one shepherd's hut. Each one is a little different and all of them are designed with one thing in mind, giving couples a proper break.

Percy is our shepherd's hut, and if you've never stayed in one before, you're in for a surprise.

Tucked into its own private cherry orchard, Percy comes complete with a fire pit and wooden loungers, a secluded spot perfect for sitting back and watching the night sky.

And inside? Don't let the size fool you. Underfloor heating, a fully equipped kitchen, shower room and electric stove. A king-size bed with freshly laundered cotton linen. Smart TV.

It's compact, yes. But it's also one of the most special places we have on the farm, and guests who've stayed here tend to agree! A big thank you to our lovely guests who left this kind review!

May in the Lake District, here's what's on your doorstep this month, when staying at HB.🙌

🏅 Keswick Mountain Festival the 15–17th May
Set on the shores of Derwentwater with the fells as a backdrop, it brings together 18 different sports events from trail runs and triathlons to open water swims, plus live music, speakers, food and drink.

🏇 Cartmel Racecourse the 23rd of May
National hunt racing against the stunning backdrop of the Lake District fells at Cartmel Racecourse. A brilliant day out, pack a picnic.

🏃 Lake District Running Festival the 29th – 31st of May
Based in Grasmere, the festival includes trail events from 5km right up to 42km, Nordic walking, kids' fun runs and home-cooked food at base camp. A proper community weekend.

🌿 Brigsteer Open Gardens 30th – 31st of May
Around 17 gardens in the village of Brigsteer open their gates for a relaxed weekend of garden exploring, with homemade cakes, plant sales and lovely views across the Lyth Valley.

High Borrans is the perfect base for all of it just 10 minutes from Windermere, an hour from Keswick, and a world away from the everyday.

A quiet, tucked-away lodge inspired by the den of an Otter, cosy, wooden, and surrounded by trees. 🦦

We’ve recently added an EV charger here at High Borrans, and it’s already getting plenty of use from our guests.

If you’re arriving in an electric car, you can pull up, plug in and settle straight into your stay. No extra planning needed, just time to unwind and enjoy the Lakes. 🌿

She's due any day now. 🐴

We've brought the ponies down from the fell to keep a close eye on them because this one in the foreground is about to make us all very excited. She is due to have a foal any day!
