On day 13 of the challenge we are recommending a local church. We are very fortunate in Wingfield to have a very beautiful church. St Andrews . Built in 1362 as the collegiate church of St John de Wingfields foundation, Wingfield College. With the church of St Andrews are some stunning monuments including Sir John de Wingfield, Michael Dela Pole , 2nd Earl of Suffolk and his wife Elizabeth Plantagenet, sister of Richard III. There was talk that Richard III should of been laid to rest with his sister!!

Today on day 4 of our bed and breakfast advent challenge is a cosy room! I thought this just about fitted the bill!! Our cosy snug is a great place to rest and relax after a hard day exploring the beautiful Suffolk countryside. Hattie 🐶certainly thinks so! &b

Today’s challenge is to share a favourite Christmas recipe. This isn’t technically a Christmas cake but it is definitely a favourite at Holly Tree House. Easy Boiled fruit cake… it’s so yummy and stays so moist as it has a tin of crushed pineapple in it! Thanks to my lovely friend for the recipe! Place 385g crushed pineapple into a saucepan with 455g mixed fruit 115g Margarine/butter 115g dark brown sugar 1tsp mixed s**ce 1tsp bicarbonate of soda. Heat until sugar and butter have melted then simmer for 3 minutes. Leave to cool. Add 2 eggs and 226g self raising flour Stir everything together then pour into 2lb loaf tin or 8” round time. Cook on fan oven 140degrees testing after 45mins. Loaf tin may take longer than round tin. If you want to make it more Christmas’s add a marzipan and icing topping? Enjoy!! 🥮

Hello from Holly Tree House. It’s the 1st official day of winter today which to be honest isn’t my favourite time of year but as it’s also the start of advent then the chocolate comes out which always cheers me up! This year we are taking part in an advent challenge with our friends in other bed and breakfasts at We will be posting throughout December with recipes, special offers and ideas of places to visit whilst staying! 11 years ago today we arrived in Suffolk to start our new venture!
I can honestly say it has been an amazing time. We’ve created an award winning bed and breakfast and along the way made some amazing friends, welcomed fab guests and made many happy memories.
The last 18 months have certainly been the hardest and most challenging but we are now coming out the other end thankfully!
Thank you to all our guests past and present, many returning on numerous occasions, for your continued support. We love what we do and hope to continue doing what we do best!

Countdown to reopening! We’ve been keeping ourselves very busy over the last few weeks making sure things are looking s**c and span ready for our guests coming when we reopen in 2 weeks time! The garden furniture is all spruced up with new cushions, the pond is all cleared of weeds and the outside of the house freshly painted! Quite a different Easter Sunday for us today . No guests in, no grandchildren visiting so no Easter Egg hunt or visit from the Easter bunny 😪 One bonus though was we didn’t have to share the simnel cake and we had a lovely walk in the sunshine!

Today is definitely a snow day here at Holly Tree House. It’s mighty cold outside with that nasty east wind whipping across the fields! But soon we will be snuggled up by the roaring fire!
