Windmill Nature Cam Episode 2: We have an OTTER! 🦦✨

We couldn't believe our eyes when reviewing this week's trail camera footage. An otter made a surprise appearance right here at Windmill Lodges!

Alongside our sleek midnight visitor, the usual suspects were out in force, Muntjac deer (lots of them!), a quick-footed fox, rabbits, and a pheasant keeping the lodge grounds lively.

Bonus: A little peek at some tiny pigeon chicks nesting safely on site! 🐣

Due to site expansion and exciting upgrades across our site, Windmill Lodges is looking for two new team members to join our friendly turnover team as soon as possible!

If you take pride in high standards and want consistent, local work, we’d love to hear from you.

🧹 The Role & Benefits:
No Heavy Laundry / Washing: All linen is professionally outsourced, so no dragging heavy laundry back and forth!

Easy On-Site Transport: We have an on-site utility buggy for moving supplies around, keeping heavy carrying to a minimum.

Focus on Detail: Your focus is purely on delivering spotless, 5-star lodge cleans and warm guest experiences.

Long-Term Stability: We are looking for people to join us year-round, not just for the summer.

📋 Key Details:
Days & Hours: Mondays & Fridays, 10:00 AM – 3:00/4:00 PM (Perfect for working around school runs or other commitments!).

Start Date: Immediate / As soon as possible.

Location: Saxtead / Framlingham, Suffolk (IP13 9RD).

Pay & Contract: Competitive hourly rate. PAYE or Registered Self-Employed (Invoiced) only. (Strictly no cash in hand).

Requirements: High attention to detail, strong work ethic, and own reliable transport to site.

Devastating to see the local smoke today. Heartfelt thanks to the emergency services working hard nearby.

A gentle reminder to all current and arriving guests that we have a temporary total ban on all BBQs, open flames, and fire pits on site to protect our guests, lodges, and local habitats.

Thank you for helping us keep Windmill Lodges safe during this dry spell. 🙏

It's heartbreaking to see the devastating wildfire at Dunwich Heath, which is destroying precious wildlife habitats and causing distress and disruption for local communities.

Suffolk is officially in drought, and nature reserves are particularly vulnerable to wildfires due to the exceptionally dry vegetation. Luckily our nearby Di**le Marshes reserve has been unaffected by the wildfire – but it's important for people to remain vigilant.

However, most wildfires are caused by human activity. That's why it's vital that everyone follows official fire safety guidance:

🚫 No cigarette butts
🚫 No littering

The Windmill Nature Cam | Episode 1 🌿🦌

A lot can happen in just 24 hours at Windmill Lodges!

Our dry summer has brought the pond water levels down, revealing a hidden world, look closely along the banks and you’ll spot freshwater mussels! 🐚 Their presence is a fantastic sign of a healthy, clean ecosystem.
In this 24-hour snapshot:
🌾 Muntjac deer stopping by, notice how they aren't drinking, but foraging on the nutrient-rich plants exposed by low water!
🦆 Mallards and Moorhens making the most of the shallow waters.

Hello everyone, James here!

Following John & Lisa’s lovely message, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself as the new custodian of Windmill Lodges.

Reading through your comments on Lisa's post over the last 24 hours has been incredibly moving. It’s crystal clear that Windmill Lodges isn't just a holiday destination, it is a place of beautiful memories, family milestones, and peaceful escapes that John, Lisa, and their family have poured their hearts into for 23 wonderful years.

I want to reassure all our lovely regulars, past guests, and friends: the core charm, the tranquil atmosphere, and the warm hospitality that makes this place so special isn't going anywhere.

As we look toward the future, our goal is simply to build on the incredible foundation already here. Over the coming months, we will be quietly working away behind the scenes to gently elevate the site, upgrading our lodge interiors, introducing some exciting new tech touches, and even adding a few new lodges to the family in the coming years.

Every single choice we make will be done with the utmost respect for the natural, peaceful character of the Windmill Lodges you all know and love.

I’m actually on site this week and have already had the pleasure of chatting with some of you (shoutout to Ben!). If you are staying with us over the summer, please do say hello if you see me around the grounds, I would love to hear your favourite Windmill memories and chat about our exciting plans.
